Interesting that this thread came up... I had to replace the rotors and pads at 37000mi on my first Protege, a 2000. But maybe this is not something that is native only to our Protege's, but Mazda products in general. My wife's 2001 Tirbute did the sme thing at 33,000mi - required new rotors and pads. At first I did not believe it, so we took it for a second opinion, and got the same result. Mazda's all have great braking response. Maybe in achieving that goal, they sacrifice brake life to get it.

I took my car in yesterday about the knocking noise and it was a warped rotor. They turned it for me and i haven't heard the sound anymore

Actually, only the transmisson, engines, and some switchgear were actually done by Ford to cut down development costs. Brakes, chassis, and suspension/structural development were done by Mazda.

Are the Mazda brake pads made of plastic or what? I have never heard of brakes wearing out this fast! Just cost us over $300.00 to have replaced. The tech said they were down to 5%! Has to be some sort of design flaw. Reading some of the posts on here, I see a lot of people are having to go through the same thing. This is our family car, no mods, lady driven to commute to and from work. We were thinking about getting a new 3, but we are reconsidering. Not only because of the bad brakes, but also the crappy service and answers we are getting form the Mazda dealership's service dept. What a money making scam this is. Anyone having any luck fighting this issue with Mazda? Any info on this would be appreciated.

I had a GTI that I was putting new rotors on every 18 to 20k miles. And its not because I drive hard; I still had the original rotors on my Miata when I sold the car at 58k miles.

I've had the same problems. When I had my PR5 for less than 1 year (17,000 miles) I had to take it to the dealership because my rear brakes had completely seized. They ended up replacing the rear pads on both sides, and the rotor and caliper in the driver side. Now I'm at 44,000 miles and am having the same problem again, and when I called the Dealership, they basically said that I would have to pay completely out of pocket, AND they didn't know why it was done in warrenty the first time!

Thinking about it. Prices on Ebay are about the same, but the prob I have, is your GB looks like you only have 3 buyers? I need these NOW. This is my daily driver (besides the occassional drag event or car show) and I drive like 80 miles a day, so I don't want to particularly put this off any longer than necessary. You've done quite a few GB's that I've seen, so what do you expect the ETA to be to get the remaining buyers?

The ones on ebay are from various vendors and actually the cheapest ebay sellers are at least $25 higher than this buy.

If people help promote this I think it could be wrapped up in another 2 weeks. 3 to your door possibly. Thats not bad considering how GB's go.

Just put New Rotors and Pads on the front of my 2002 LX with 42K miles. The dealer told me I had over 50% of my break pad life left, but it was pulsing and clicking when coming to a stop.

It was rotor runout, and they machined the rotors at about 20K for the same problem.

The dealer wanted $450 for front pads and rotors.

2002 LX rotors are hard to find.

AutoZone - Rotors 31.99 each
O'Reilys - Wagner Thermo Quiets 27.99 a set.

Paying $100 and less than 2 hours of work to fix what took Mazda 2 days to diagnose and wanted to charge $450 for......................Priceless. I called them and told them about it too.

Even the independent shop wanted $25 per rotor to machine them. Why not just get a new one for $32 + tax?

I know they are not Brembo rotors, but it totally got rid of the problems I was having.

The hardest part was getting the clips back on!!:yell:
