P5 strut tower brace on Sedan

I've got an 03' ES.

I've done a search already, but haven't found what I need.

If I could get the brace and cruise control relocator bracket from a scrapyard, could someone explain the installation process?

I was looking specifically at this one:

Would I have to worry about the structural integrity of the bar, even if it appears in perfect condition?

It should be fairly straightforward. there will be a few bolts that hold everything onto the car and then your vaccuum lines running to and from the booster. I think there is also a cable to the throttlebody, but not sure.

Damn, I figured it would have been just the brace itself. Perhaps I should just order it from the dealer.

do you have cruise control now?? If so you should just need the bar and bracket it uses....I thought you wanted the bar AND the cruise control solenoid.

Yeah sorry, I already have cruise. So I guess I just need the bracket.

Are the mounting holes already there?

This should help. :)

Does the MP5 brace bolt onto the bracket? That's how it appears to me from the pics I've seen...?

Also, do the bolts have to be torqued down?

Roddimus Prime July-1st-2004 01:35 PM

yes, just get the bracket off that car and attach it (probably just sits above or below the cruise bracket) to showck tower...then bolt the strut bar down on top....snug it up, drive it a few miles and then check and sung if needed.

The dealer wants $217CDN for the bar and $30 for each bracket....They also have them in stock.

To be honest though, I'd feel happiest with the OEM P5 bar, knowing I'd have no problems with fitting or the cruise ctrl relocate - plus, I doubt I'd be spending significantly more than any other aftermarket bar.

why are people acting like the P5 is any different under the hood than any other 2.0L Protege..the brackets are either with or without cruise...THAT'S IT!!...geez louise

fdb July-7th-2004 05:48 PM

OK - I have an 03' ES, WITH cruise. Do I need the brackets, or don't I....?

I thought the brackets for the P5 were different than my current ones(WITH cruise) , in that they had extensions, with the holes for mounting the bar.....where as mine don't...

macdaddyslomo July-7th-2004 07:58 PM

you will need the brackets from the dealer for Protege's with cruise..install is pretty sraight forward..however in the pic you showed the P5 has the brackets...as far as I know all P's have cruise..so just use those

Is the MazdaSpeed bar any different than the P5's bar?

Same mounting brackets and everything, right?

macdaddyslomo July-8th-2004 10:55 AM

Yes.

In regard to the cruise bracket that's on the car now -- Does the new strut tower mount bracket go on top of it?
