MP3 rear sway bar for P5

I have been reading the archives about the fact that the 19mm rear MP3 sway bar will fit without any changes to a P5. Is that correct?

And anybody has an idea about the price and where to buy one?

Thanks,
Florian

It will fit just fine. For Mazda OEM parts like the MP3 or Mazdaspeed bars, I recommend www.mazdastuff.com

For aftermarket sway bars, AWR www.awrracing.com has some good pieces.

All of the dealers that I called (including mazdastuff.com) told me that the MP3 rear swaybar will not fit my P5 because the wagon rear suspension is different. What is the deal here?

Thanks,
Florian

Also if I decide to order it anyway will I need the new bushings and brackets that attach the bar to the chasis (I am not talking about the endlinks)?

Thanks,
Florian

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Protege5 rear suspension the same as the sedan? I know they have updated end links for the MP3 bar for the clunking problem, but otherwise your stock end links, subframe, etc. should all be fine to take the MP3 bar.

The P5 is the same exact suspension, wheel base, lateral links, trailing arms, etc. However, I thought that the MazdaSpeed (2003) rear bar required a different rear subframe. Are MP3 (2002) same as MazdaSpeed (2003)bars or not? I dunno.

I think the Mazdaspeed got thicker front and rear bars, so you may be right about the different rear subframe for the Mazdaspeed.

I will let everybody know how it goes since I ordered the bar from mazdstuff.com. It should be here by mid next week. I will try to install it without any additional hardware and see how well it fits.

Thanks,
Florian

You will ned the rear sub frame to do the conversion. I just did the conversion two days ago and the subframe on the p5 is slightly different from the mazdaspeed. You will also need to get you car realigned because you will need to remove the camber arms to change the subframe

But I am not getting the mazdaspeed stuff. I am getting the MP3 bar. Is your bar an MP3 or a mazdaspeed one?

Thanks,
Florian

I believe they are the same

I guess I will figure it out in a few days. Thanks for letting me know though.

I promised to give an update about the issue.

MP3 uses the MazdSpeed rear swaybar which does not fit the P5 without changing the rear subframe. So I returned it and ordered an AWR 19mm one.

Damn, I wish I would've seen this earlier. You can use the mounting brackets from AWR's 21.5mm RSB to install the Racing Beat bar. ;)

Thye only difference in the subframe is that the Mazdaspeed one is reinforced where the swaybar mounts to it.

just get the racing beat 20mm...
