Kyb gr2 struts

I recently put skunk2 coilover on my pro with a full drop. My stock stocks keep maxing out. I was looking into getting some KYB GR2 Gas Shocks, what do you guys think? would they be good for a lowered car for a cheap cost. The drop is about 3-3.5inches.

Sorry to disappoint, but you will blow the tops off the GR-2. So, initially they are less, but your will end up replacing them very frequently. I would suggest a KYB AGX, Koni, Bilstein, or something that was made to be lowered. The GR-2 is a great product, but not made to be lowered at all.

i didnt know kyb makes agx shocks for the protege. Would tokico hp(blue) work or would the tokico illmunia better.

Definitely dont use the kyb gr2 with more than 1.5 lowering....I have kyb gr2's with racing beats and have already replaced the front drivers side with 3k on it.

Hi jster-

Sorry-I have no experience with those. Can't say for certain, unfortunately.

Racing Beat sells the "Blues" alongside the MP3/MSP springs (1" drop), so I would think the Tokicos would work well. One thing I don't know for sure is if the Blues are indeed identical to the MP3 OEM struts, which were made by Tokico and blue in color, (and were also available in the little Mazda dealer "Performance Accessories" brochure along with all the other MP3 parts). I have the RB springs and the Blues for over 25K miles with no troubles, but 1" is not a very radical drop.

I have the KYB GR-2 struts but haven't put them on yet. Im waiting till I get my new wheels before I put on the lowering springs and shock/struts. Will the GR-2s be fine with the Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs? The drop is no more than 1.5 all around.

They may be, but like I said, I have them with RB's and have already blown 1 out. Whether that had anything with the 1" drop or not, who's to say.

GR-2's are NOT recommended...the tokico HP's are great for a dropped car and can handle the increase in strut travel. the illumina's arent "better" persay in quality, they cost more because they are adjustable...if youve got the extra money though I see illumina's on ebay for $450 shipped for a set of four...only like $125 more than the HP's
