Important news flash!

I got under my car yesterday to measure some rear suspension to see if I could retrofit the rear disc setup in a MX-3 to my '99 Pro.

The Mx-3 shares the same setup (TTL) as the Gen3 Protege. The distance between the two bolts holding the spindle to the bottom of the strut is the strut looks to be the same (2 3/8" approx.)

Also, the strut in both cars is approx. 1 1/4" in diam. This leads me to believe the spindle would interchange. The rest of the system bolts to the spindle (hub, caliper, discs etc.)

The hub, discs, calipers and parking brake cable and possibly proportion valve would have to be changed (might be able to use the parking brake cable from a Gen3/Pro5 if the rear brake system is close enough.

I could change the compete car to 5-bolt to get 4-disc system but that would cost more $$. The Protege might have better braking with the stock drums, or might be no noticable difference, the need for 4-disc is purely an visual thing behind a nice set of rims...drums look dumb!

I haven't taken professional style measurements so don't quote me yet...do your own math first...I'm just getting the ball rolling!

I didn't realise the Gen3 disc and drum cars could interchange. Last I wrote about it, nobody could tell me...thanks for the info, less money spent, more money saved!

Again thanx!
