Help: Parking Brake Not Working after Brake Change
Hey all...Hopefully you can help.
I just changed front and rear brakes, which I thought went well. Unfortunately, now the parking brake does not engage at all. I can pull the handle all the way, and it doesn't do a thing. When I pull on the brake handle with someone under the car, he can see that it does pull the cable on both sides...but it doesn't push the brake pads into the rotor at all. Does this have something to do with he little allen-head gear screw that pulls the caliper out? Anyone know what's up or what we did wrong? |
I think that is also the Parking Brake adjuster too. Perhaps now it should be snugged back down till it touches?
|
I know I'm going to have to put her up and take the wheels off again to fix something...I'm just hoping I can figure out exactly what to do before hand...
what you say makes sense...sounds right, at least...anyone else have this experience?? |
Okay, an update...apparently they self adjust; today the parking brake is nice and firm, without me even doing anything to them.
Later... |
put it in reverse....slam the gas then the brakes,HARD!..this should help adjust the rear brakes
|
hehe...
|
roflmao...funiest advice I've heard yet
|
Why are you guys laughing? That's actually how you adjust them.
|
It may sound funny, but that is how it's done.

Originally posted by mike_moss It's not "self adjusting". When brakes were changed, pistons were pushed in. It takes a while for them to work their way out again. I have heard about the backing up thing...it was just the slam on the gas/slam on the brakes thing that sounded funny! BTW...the parking brake is now very firm, and I did not do anything special (i.e. back up then hit the brakes, etc). |
