Having issues with newish Brakes
 

Since nobody was of any help at that other protege site....

About 3 months ago, I upgraded to Centric rotors, PosiQuiet pads on the rear, and Axxis Deluxe plus' on the front. up until last week, I have heard absolutely no brake noise at all. Now, they make a "rolling squeek" when I'm moving, and scream bloody murder, when I brake! What the crap is going on, and how to I stop it?

How do I tell if I just need some stop-squeal, or if a cali is seized?

Does the sound come from one side or both? Front or rear?

tough to say. it sounds like passenger side front, but it's hard to tell from inside the cabin.

If I was to guess it would be those Axxis Pads. I have found on many cars that these pads squeek.

Also, make sure that the M-springs and the Guide plates are intact.

Am I the only one that thinks it's just the sound of the wear sensor on the pads?

squeaking when not braking, and much louder when braking.. definitely indicative of it.

I haven't heard great reviews of Axxis pads though so who knows.

Take a look at them (i.e. look at that hole in the caliper, or get a look from the side .. shouldn't even need to take the wheels off (ok maybe with stock wheels you might) to see how much meat is left on the pads.

ok, Axxis just sucks :P

make sure there isn't something.. stuck between the pad and rotor (how would you even manage that??)

actually... I have seen something LIKE this, but it would make noise all the time.

Where a shim slipped off the pad and would scrape on the hat portion of the rotor

hmmm....I'll give them a peek tomorrow. The rolling squeal has almost disappeared, but the brake squeal is as annoying as ever...

or it could be like my KVR pads where the meat of the pads (all 8 of them) separated from the backing plate o_O

Well we can rule out the springs and sliders most likely since there was no brake noise for month. If the pads aren't worn out and the shims are still attached.. there really isn't that much else it could be

does that stop squeal grease work pretty well?

CRC Disc Brake Quiet works well. A thin layer has to be applied between the shim and the backing plate of the pad.

I am using Hawk HPS pads at all 4 corners. They had a shim on the back of the pad from factory. I put them on with 4 new Brembo Rotors and I haven't heard any noise at all. I have put about 12000 miles on them.

exactly the setup I'm currently running. The Hawk shims were plastic though.. I've never seen that before :P

I didn't realize they were plastic. Interesting.

The set of Hawk HPS pads I got for my other car didn't have shims. I just re-used my factory shims after cleaning them off with brake cleaner and used a bit of CRC Disc Brake Quiet in between the shim and back of the pad. It all depends on what car the pads are for I guess.

i had axxiss pads on the 1st gen and LOVED Them. good luck fixing this issue
