Gen 3 Suspension Noise...

Hey, I got B+G springs installed on my 2001 Pro ES and I am not really happy. The drop was good (1.75") and the ride is nice. The main problem is the noise!!! The rear suspension sounds like it is gonna break off. On every bump, there is a loud clicking and clanking sound coming from the rear. I took it back to the shop 3 times to fix it and everything is installed fine. Could it just be the springs? I think that the top 4 coils that are close together keep slamming against each other. Is there any way to fix it? Please help...

Did you trim your bumpstops? I had the same problem when I lowered my last car.

Yes, I had the shop trim my bump stops in half.

It's not the bumpstops. The rear struts on the 3rd gen Protege have a long strut rod for a lot of suspension travel. The problem is the lowering springs are shorter than the strut rod, so they don't fit tightly between the lower strut spring seat and the upper spring seat when the strut is fully extended. When on the car this way, if you hit a big enough bump, the spring can move off its seats. If this happens, you will probably get a lot of noise from the rear suspension or worse. I drilled a few extra small holes around the upper and lower spring seats and used strong zip ties to hold the bottom and top of the spring against the seats.
