eibach question

Last wednesday I got the eibach pro kit put on. At first I didnt see any diffrence but the next day it was alittle lower( about 1 in.). Eibach says the springs are supposed to lower about 1.5 to 1.8, has anyone else had a problem with that or is it just me? or am I just not letting them settle(what the installer said)

protetype September-1st-2002 11:48 AM

they'll probably actually settle a bit more than what they're supposed to after a few miles on them.

protege2L September-1st-2002 11:51 AM

should i get another alignment after a month or two? after it drops som more? I got a 6 month warenty on my alignment so its free for another one.

always get an alignment after lowering your car. Wait till it "settles" after a few days though. Anytime you do any suspension work its a good idea to re-align the car since the suspension geometry is likely to have changed.

There's something wrong here. Me and 2 of my friends with Proteges got Eibach's and no one got the drop Eibach claims!
My car drop about 1.5" in the rear with the Eibach's, not 1.8" like they claim! Yes, 0.3" is very noticeable to me.

protege2L,
take a measurement at each corner from the ground to the bottom of the fender and let me know. I'll tell you what my measurements were after I find them. I shopuld be around 24".

Farsyde September-7th-2002 12:02 PM

You have to let the springs settle first dude. You should measure the height after a few weeks and it should be down to 1.8.....maybe more.

protege2L September-7th-2002 12:05 PM

i have had them a week and i measured today. From the top of the wheel well to the ground is 25 1/2 " on all corners. my only problem is it still looks stock.

igdrasil September-10th-2002 03:13 PM

and...

What about the shocks, did you keep the stock ones? If so, thats why, u need 2 things to settle, the springs and the shocks, that are pushing up stronger. Thats why eibach (as well as other manufaturers) recommend their shocks for lower suspension.
The brand that the Mp3's uses will do fine too.

besides that though... how is the ride and handling? does it ride rough/bottom out/etc. Does it handle better (which IMHO would be pretty hard to do since stock they handle great). TIA...

it rides alittle rougher but it handels great. i am pleased except for the stock look, but the back is starting to comedown so im getting happier.

i've had mine on for months and i threw about 6 people in the back of my pro the other week and it settled some more. its a breaking in process, try putting some weight in the car and see what happens. i got a great drop and my p5 looks mean.

It could take months for the springs to settle. It doesn't just do it right away. My car looked stock after I lowered mine and was quite disappointed. It has since settled and looks about right.

jimbo September-11th-2002 11:11 AM

JDMStuff, now that your car has settled... do you have any problems with clearance? I'm thinking about lowering mine. But, since it's the car that my wife drives I won't do it if she'll keep scraping everywhere. TIA...

Invincibleredp5 September-11th-2002 11:30 AM

JDM has a front lip, so hes probably extra carefull not to scrape cause that would be the end of that.

but i dont have one an i havent scraped anything ever, i've had mine on since march. even put 6 passangers in the back once andit didnt scrape.

just be carefull going straight over speedbumps- if you go fast you might scrap---i do.... i find it best if you kinda caty-corner it over one wheel at a time...yeah as far as settlieng in, i think my car gets lower every week! its looking good...
