broken strut? WTF

Well i installed my eibach pro kit.. looks great. but..........

when i finally got to the left front spring... that last one i did. the damn strut bolt wont tighten all the way. it went on about 4 turns then started spinning the damn strut. now i cant get it to go on or off. i tried to hold the rod still and tighten but that didnt work ,,nothing will hold it strong enough. so needless to say i just drove it like that...didnt have any other choice...so obviously i can hear the strut clanking when i turn...so i asked some guy at sears about it and he said i need a new strut. he said the same thing happened to him. so what do u guys think... should i just get a damn monkey wrench and clamp onto it and tighten? or go buy a new strut. also how much are msp struts ?? thanks for the help..

can't remember how i did mine since i did it back in march, but
i do remember there is a way to hold the shaft with a wrench
while you tighten with another wrench.

i wouldn't drive it like that for too long.. it might collapse after
hitting a large enough dip or hump

Yes this is an old post - but as a tip for installing or removing the strut top nut...
There is a rubber bump stop at the top, which prevents the strut from ever collapsing all the way. What I've done whenever removing or installing, just to keep the strut rod spinning, is to use a MIG welder and put a small weld bump / nub on the side of the shaft right near the top end of the polished shaft so that you can easily grab it with a pair of channel-locks. This keeps the strut rod from spinning and is covered when the bump stop is slid to the top of the strut.
