Airbag Suspension

I was wondering if anyone has put airbags on their 99 or later pro. I like them a lot and I would like to have them if it is possible, also aroudn how much do they usually run w/ installation??

Never do that to your car.

Why would you want to spend all that money to ruin the excellent handling of the protege? Get a set of coilovers if you want adjustability.

toadmaster9867 September-13th-2002 03:53 PM

well considering the protege suxs at handling, at least the 99, i dunno. My mom has a civic Vtec, and my brother has a jetta w/ turbo 280 Hp, and my dad has an M3. My car could never catch up to any of those, either in a drag, or a slalom course. SO i might as well fix it up and make itlook good.

toadmaster9867 September-13th-2002 04:26 PM

No its alright but trust me, my dad changes cars every year and he even said that the protege is 1 of the worst that hes driven. And i know i shoudlnt make this comparison, but when i used to drive my brothers jetta even when it was stock, taht thing just stuck to the ground. I dunno i have something for german handling, too bad i dont have the money. And about the driving skool i am going to the BMW M-series training session which i think it is in North Carolina (not sure). 3 days and nights of driving mean machines w/ my dad so i would like to see u race me then.

Civics, Jettas handle better?!

Jetta's surely don't. They are known for a smooth ride, not a great handling one. Floaty boat ride + rear torsion beam axle suspension does not equal good handling. Even on VWvortex, many Golf/Jetta owners admit their cars handle like crap compared to other cars out there. ::ahem::: Protege ::ahem::

toadmaster9867 September-16th-2002 08:30 PM

how about my dad's M3, if u tell me that the protege handles better than an M3 u ppl deserve to die w/ RuPaul laying next to u.

NegatiZE September-16th-2002 08:33 PM

I never said anything about a BMW. You'd be in an idiot to think a front wheel drive economy car could outhandle even a stock 3-series BMW. All I said was just because it was German does not mean it automatically handles great.

leungwingkei September-16th-2002 11:25 PM

Same goes for a Civic.

kosmicride September-19th-2002 11:35 AM

Germans built the volkswagen and damn it sure as hell does not handle great, unless you do what I did slam it to the ground narrow the front beam 7 inches.

hihoslva September-27th-2002 10:32 AM

Let's see here - the '99 Protege is one of the worst handling cars you've ever driven? And you think a Civic is better?

Sorry - this thread needs to die. Maybe he thinks the more a car body rolls into turns and understeers, the better it handles.

And please stop comparing daddy's BMW to the Protege. Unless you really think comparing a $40k car to a sub $20k car is a fair fight. In that case, I can't see why my P5 doesn't handle like a Porsche.....

What planet do you drive on?

I don't remember for a fact which mag it was...but it was either Car and Driver or Road and Track listed in the back of one of their issues last summer the last 250 cars that they had tested, and it listed all the stats.....and in that list of cars there was every thing from econoboxes (0ur cars) all the way to the F1....needless to say a bit on the pricey side for most ALL of us....anyway...out of that 250 cars...there were ONLY 39 that out handled OURS.....and nearly EVERY car on that list that outhandled our cost a minimum of twice what ours do...and sometimes they were FIVE times the price.....you might be surprised to find out that among the cars that could NOT hang with the Protege in the 600 foot slolom was the corvette.....with the exception of the newest model. pretty inpressive in my book. they may eat us on the straights...but they better hang on in the twisities!

I have to disagree on the VW thing.(I mean the subject in this thread, not the actual VW Thing, a car I would never defend as a decnt handling car). Where was I, oh yea, I have an 83 Scirocco which sticks to the road like I was following a leaky glue truck. When I decided to go with a newer and bigger car for family purposes I test drove quite a few machines and the P5 was my favorite in the under 20 catagory. I think both machines can "handle" their own.
