ABS conversion
 

I have a 1.6l LX ie no ABS.
What I want to do is have ABS, I dont care how crappy it is, it was raining today and I was slidding all over the place, mind you I have a set of good tires that help out alot when I switch to winter tires it can only get worse.

Main question. Is it possible to find a junked es and take off its ABS parts and just move them over, I assums I would need the sensors and the master cylinder. Is the ABS a standalone system or is it ecu controled.

ABS does require an ABS controller in order to work.... and sensors at all four wheels that measure individual wheel speed. Wheel speed is compared with vehicle speed to ensure that no wheel is locked up. If impending lockup, the brakes are "pulsed" to allow the wheel to rotate while still applying force to slow the car. In addition to this electronic stuff, you'll need the hardware (because such a setup requires precise distribution to each of the four brakes). Making it further complex, in P5s at least ABS is married to other features, such as F/R electronic brake proportioning. I am sure it can be done, but it will be a major undertaking...
