3rd Gen Caliper Bracket Question

Does anyone know if the bracket the caliper mounts to (knuckle?) is identical between the 99-00 es and 2002+ pro - pro5? IIRC they all use the 10.2" rotor so they should be pretty close.

The reason I ask is because I am upgrading the tiny 9.2" brakes on my 2001 lx 2.0. I have most of the parts necessary to upgrade to the rotors/calipers of the 99-00 es, but not the caliper bracket. A friend has offered to give me the ones from a protege5. Will this fit?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure if you're talking about the caliper carrier or the knuckle? The knuckle is what the caliper and caliper bracket bolts to, which is what the caliper itself bolts to. If you look on MSPrtoege.com under the P5 link you'll find schematics of much of the car.

Mazda has different part numbers for the knuckle from 1999 model year to production date 6/25/99 and then apparently they're all the same for the 2002-03 model year. Of course, they're all different depending on whether you have ABS or not. Also, Mazda lists the same part numbers for the caliper carriers for 1999-02 for the 1.8 and 2.0 liter engine. Apparently for 2003 all non-MSP calipers are the same. Hope this helps.

to upgrade to 99-00 ES Brakes when you have a 4 lug, all you need is the calipers and rotors, the caliper will bolt right up

So what all is required to switch my Gf's 1999 LX to rear disc?

do a search..the rear disc question has been answered many times..

cthom,

After I looked at the service manual, the part I'm referring to is labeled the "mounting support." From the info you gave me, it sounds like I would be able to use the mounting support (caliper carrier) from the P5 and use the existing knuckle to make this work.

BTW is there an online database somwhere that would let me compare part numbers for this kind of thing?

Thanks

and here's the schematic:

An online database for comparisons would be great. I really don't know if one exists, but I think it must. I've tried going on various brake mfr. sites (Wagner, Cardone) to interchange calipers but it's kind of tedious. Maybe this will help.
