Ziebart rustproofing for P5

I was just curious as if anyone had had rustproofing done to their cars, dealer or otherwise and if it really does make a difference or it is another load of crap.
I did not have it done at the dealer, because that is just another way to add up on that sale price. I know it can be doen aftermarket though.
Thanks

rustproffing is not needed on our cars because its already applied in the key areas... if you take care of your car washing it often and cleaning the undercarriage regualary then thing should be ok..

this is all very true....probably the only thing you would really get out of an aftermarket rustproofing is a little additional sound deadening.....and very little at that.

Ziebart is very bad! They will do more harm than good.

I don't know about ziebart, however if you want to keep your car more than 5 years, rustproofing is a must. Especially if you live in the north where they salt the crap out of the roads. You have to protect the inner panels against condensation moisture and the lower parts (quarter panels) from the salt spray. Galvanized door panels will not provide rust protection for more than 3 years, and it takes about 2 years for the steel to rust through. hence the 5 year rust warrenty on your car. I personally use Krown, but have no particular preference. You just have to make sure you go to someone who sprays the interior of the car panels.
Stocker.

Listen to stocker....he should know since he lives in Steel town. LOL
Seriously though, if you live in areas where they salt the hell out of the roads for every snow fall then rust proofing is a must.
I go to Krown rustproofing every fall before the white stuff starts...I'm not talking about the stuff falling from the sky either.

I agree that if you plan on keeping your car for more than 5 years, get it rustproofed and hand wash and wax regularly. The manufacturers protection is just enough to see it through the 5 year corrosion warranty. If you live in southern, dry climates, then you probably won't need any additional protection, but since I see you live in NY, it is a must. Moisture and salt in winter are a car's worst enemy (other than women behind the wheel of a minivan, with a cell phone stuck to her face and a car full of kids, LOL). My car and my wife's car go in each year for an application of Krown (I don't know if they have this company in the US), but in Canada, in consumer reports, it is rated the best rust protection when applied each year. The problem with Ziebart (and I have had new cars in the past that came with this, even though I didn't request it) is that it dries to a hard finish. As it dries out and your car flexes, moisture gets into the space between the car and the Ziebart protection and the car can rot away underneath without any visual indication until it is too late. Don't use that crap!!!

I have a Krown , but what are the yearly prices. I just coated my car with this clear dripless stuff that looks really good and all, but I really have no idea of how to protect the doors and stuff! Anyone with a price for Krown would be much appreciated! :)

your dealer should offer those services. Of course you probably wont want to go through them you should listen to what they have to say., I got a lot of helpful info from my dealer on this issue.

Krown applications for cars on a yearly basis is about CAN$100 + tax. The car will drip for about 3 -5 days depending on the temperature when you get it done. Another thing with Ziebart is that if a rock or something hits it, the Ziebart chips off, leaving vulnerable metal to potentially rust. With Krown, it creeps, so that if a rock or something hits the underside, the Krown will creep back to cover it.

Yea I got the rustproofing and from Ziebart. Its warranteed for life but I had a friend who works there do it.

Definitely DO NOT got to the dealer, their prices were tripled and not warrantteed.

The car runs much quieter. (the underbody protec really helps this too)

If you going to keep the car for more than 5 yrs do it.

I was trying to say get it done at dealer just that they could provide good info.

Yes, but to be warrantied for life, you are supposed to take it back every year, so they can inspect the underside and re-coat any areas that have been chipped off and are now exposing the unprotected metal. I know, because I used to have 2 Fords that were Ziebarted. The stuff may sound proof the car, but it CAN (but not necessarily always) cause more harm than good in the long term.

I have used Ziebart for years and been very happy with them and the quality of their products. I live on the coast where they recommend rust-proofing but I am not convinced it really does any good and elected not to have it done. However, I have used their Diamond Gloss paint protectant on all my cars and I swear by it! Great stuff. Keeps your car looking great and eliminates the need for waxing very often.

Sounds like good service to me. I probably wouldn't do a tint there but for the protection stuff, it works for me.
