Wooo 100k!

Well, just rolled it over 100,000 today... all that driving, and only had to replace an EGR and an Alt.

Under $1000 of parts for 100,000 on the odo.

Go Mazda!

I can't help but think some major problems may be on the horizon at this point though.

Anyone over 100,000 have any suggestions I should be looking for to avoid catastrophe?

I have 128,600 on my 2002 Protege 5.

NO breakdowns. All routine maintainence. Not even an alternator failure!

Advice?

Sell it, and buy a new Mazda 3 or 6...

i had a 626 with the FS engine and over 130,000 miles on it. car ran like a champ. just do basic maintenance and you'll be fine. we've serviced a few clogged pre-cats and fuel pumps, also common on higher mileage older FS equipped cars.

Hi, Ken-

Is there a way to get some decent brakes on my Protoge 5 for not too much $$$?

The stock brake are a real disappointment.

I was wondering if the bigger rotors from a Mazda 3 will bolt on... Maybe a wrecked care could be a source of rotors and calipers, and better braking for me.

Or is aftermarket a better way to go?

I'm just looking for better daily driver feel and performance.

Maybe I'll just buy a 3 or 6!

Thanks in advance,
Target

a friend is pushing 150k, no issues to sepak of, not even the egr!! routine maint for the most part

J-Protege July-8th-2007 03:13 PM

^^ You know, that's wierd, because the EGR doesn't break, it either rusts away or gets clogged. I would think that would happen to everyone, since it seems to be just natural maintenance.

Would different climate/weather or driving habits make a difference to EGR failure?

Any trouble with the Mass Air Flow Sensor

Have an 02 Protege ES 5spd with 90k and wondering if anyones had trouble with the mass air flow sensor. To date I've done routine maintenance and replaced the struts.

Background:
Have had the cold engine hesitation/ shuddering common to Mazda's from the start. Then had an odd experience. The car wouldn't idle when cold, you'd have to hold the revs with the throttle or it would stall (it's a stick). Took it too a mechanic who said it might be the Mass Air Flow Sensor. He showed me how to adjust the idle and said the Mass Air Flow sensor was the next step. Unrelated to the problem I replace the plugs as routine maintenance. The problem went away (may have bumped wiring or did something I'll never know I did).

^^^ Cool looking gauges... that's not stock is it?

D-rock240 August-24th-2007 07:27 AM

Thanks man. It's a LX cluster with Streetring gauge rings, I swapped out my DX cluster w/o tach a couple years ago.
