Need help!

here's the break down, got a 2001 protege and did a engine swap from a 02 model. last week had the ac goin and the cable from the alternator to the batt, and drained the batt
burnet out.

question : is the cable a fusable link or a reg cable ?? if thats not the case what might be causing it and has this happend to any one else ?
