Where to find a Mazdaspeed Protege?
 

Hey, I'm really exited about hte new Mazaspeed Protege and am looking at getting one around february or march. I was wondering if the projected 2,000 units by the end of 2002 was just for 2002? Will they be making more than this initial 2,000 so that I'll be able to find one then? Where would I be able to find one now? Thanks a lot for the help and I look forward to a great time on this forum! (n00b)

ummmm good luck if you want to get a MSP by feb or march, especially if you didn't put a cash deposit....and yea they only made 2000 for all of north america, so mainly Canada and the US. And like the MP3 the year before it is a LIMITED production car.

If I put a $5,000 deposit on one now, would they hold on to it until feb or march? Thanks a lot. I just love the body style and power of it so much. Is it hard to find used MP3s?

Call all the Mazda dealerships near you and see if they are getting any. You should be able to find one.

I heard next spring that they are going to make another run of mazdaspeeds. Different colors though.

I heard it on this board. I think its supposed to be the same car just different colors.

nope, the MSP is going to be made in black and orange only. there will be a total of 1700 cars in the production run. 1100 black, and 600 orange. also, this car is a one year only item. mazdaspeed may build something comperable in the next model-year or two, but it will not be called a MSP. the protege name will be dropped altogether for 2004, and mazda is replacing it with what they are calling simply, the '3'. the line-up will consist of a '3', a '6', and a '9'.
i'm not sure about any tests that the dealers may or may not have to go through to be mazdaspeed qualified, but i do know they have to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $20k just to be able to distribute M-speed cars and parts. also, the techs and sales people have to be schooled in their respective departments for the M-speed product line.
this is all straight out of my salesperson's mouth, so i'm pretty sure it's accurate.

iain, they are making a mid run with the car, it will be the 2003.5 MSP, which will now come in two new colors, yellow and silver....now if i can find that link

I thought it was going to be titanium silver or something like that. Kind of blueish looking.

i really don't think they are making it in other colors, but you might be right. i got to look at some dealer paperwork for production, and the 1700 units in black and orange are it as far as anyone here knows.
