Wheel/Tire size?

Anyone put any aftermarket wheels on the P5? I am curious as to the size of tires?
I am wanting to put some 17 inchers on there. Tire Rack recommends 205/45...I would like to squeeze in some 215/45 or if they will fit 225/40's , but they will most likely be to big.
Any suggestions?

thanks all!:)

Talk to your local tire shop. They will look up the O.D. of the tire, and will tell you which sizes will fit. That is, almost any size will fit, it just depends how far out you want your speedometer out (and changes your power ranges).

I would do a search of the board (little Search button at the top) for this as it has been talked about before.

In addition I will throw this comment out:

the outer diameter is not the only factor you need to worry about when it comes to putting different size tires on. When you opt to go really wide you need to worry about the tire hitting the suspension components or rubbing in the wheel well when you turn the wheels... you need to make sure that you have sufficient clearance.

For a 17" wheel the proper size should be a 205/40/17. The factory revs per mile on the 16" tires is 571 ( I think ). By going to a 205/40/17 you will end up with 551 revs/mile. This is with in the recommended +/- 5% from factory that you can run without making any changes in your speedometer gearing.

PM me and I will answer all your questions tire and wheel concerns. I do all the consultation for the rx7club.com's forum, ARD T2.

My MP5 has 18's on it with 215/35's. It really does depend on what you want as far as performance. The car can fit a 225/45/17, if you want. That's what Tripoint runs on theirs, I seen the car at SEMA. Can run 225/40/18 as well. All depends on the offset and that's what I can give you.

I've been reccommended improper fitments from several wheel shops as well as tirerack.com. Not their fault, they just hadn't experienced the fitment I was looking for w/ the same lowering.
Otherwise contact me at the other forum. I would love to help out the Protege guys as well as help donate to the forum. We can supply you with a very good price on almost any wheel you want. I got high caliber lines too, Volk, Fikse, Kinesis, etc. I do most of my work on RX-7's, NSX's, Supras n'stuff

ARD, any way of getting a deal on Tenzo Rs? And that's great that you're helping out :blue: I'll have a dilema for wheels in a few months, oh and are they cheaper to buy now in the winter since nobody really puts them on in the snow or are the prices the same?

ARD MP5 November-15th-2001 01:35 AM

The price won't change seasonally, that might just happen if the model is being discontinued.

The only thing for you is the exchange rate. I will help you out as much as I can because I know it will bite you in the arse with the conversion. I got a couple of RX7 customers up there and we run into this all the time. No matter what I should be able to offer the forum guys the lowest price. It is what you get for helping out the community. They are all selfless acts of love. hehe.

I can look into the TENZO R's for you. PM me all the specifics, 17 or 18 and what color you want. I'll call and find out the related offsets they offer for our boltpattern.

LAter, Rishie

We do have a special on the OZ Nova Monoblock, 17,7 +44? For about $180 a wheel, will allow use of 215/40/17, perfect O.D. for the MP5. Offer Kumho tires as well as Nitto, and all other major brands.
