what your protege 5 runs?

i've been tryin to see best times for the PR5. bone stock i ran a 17.6 but tire bounce was univoidable.
i just put intake and exhaust on my 02 PR5 haven't ran it yet but have beaten civis ls with headers intake and exhaust, corolla type-s and kept up with civic si 03............
has anyone done better and what can i do without turbo to get quicker?

Roddimus Prime May-23rd-2004 08:33 PM

My P5 with ebay SRI intake and header ran a 16.29s It runs about 10.4s in the eighth.

stock i ran 16.8@81.5mph and haven't been back since!

Roddimus Prime May-23rd-2004 11:40 PM

I hear a viscious rumor that the new 2.3L mazda3s are running 15.9's stock!! whoa!!

taesutkd May-24th-2004 12:14 AM

yall ran 16's stock?.....how?......maybe i would have but at the start the tire bouce killed me.....how did you get past that

taesutkd May-24th-2004 12:17 AM

i heard the mazda 3's ran low 15's....i test drove them when i was looking for my car and they are quick.........looking to see if the mazda 3 engine will fit in the PR5.....it comes stock 180 horse...i guess i'll have to see if it could work

Roddimus Prime May-24th-2004 12:22 AM

time to check your "facts". the Mazda 3 engine will NOT fit in the P5 without a LOT of work

and it only makes 160hp....gotta read up on those things first!

Roddimus Prime May-24th-2004 12:24 AM

p.s. I achieve my "low times" through proper launching and good shifting. Just practice some more and you'll improve.

I started the night last night running 11s 1/8 mile....by the end of the night I had learned which lane was stickier and had dropped my times from 11.05s to 10.53s. A half second is like a mile in drag racing.

taesutkd May-24th-2004 12:26 AM

i know the work would be a lot. was thinkin bout putting an RX-7 engine in it but thats a lot of freakin work....the Mazda 3 engine is not as much work..........and i thought i read 180 but that was 3 months ago so might have made a mistake

Roddimus Prime May-24th-2004 12:29 AM

swapping a mazda 3 engine into a p5 isn't going to be that much work?!?! dude....please don't start with this.

taesutkd May-24th-2004 12:31 AM

Well its not gonna be a lot of work for me.....i'm gonna pay someone to do it.......and since my boys own the shops that work on ish out here it's not that much in labor fees.......

Roddimus Prime May-24th-2004 12:39 AM

(sigh)....it's like trying to teach a dog how to use the commode.

dude. Good luck with your M3 project. You'll need it. When/if your "friends" finish the swap for you be sure to post extensive pictures and a total cost for everyone.

Have you even looked at the two engines side by side to see what they even look like? As a fabricator and someone who has built several hybrid vehicles I wish you and your firends the best of luck. It ain't happenening.

now go and prove me wrong...be my hero!

p.s. an M3 engine is going to cost you $4500 for the long block, the ECU is about $1200, wiring harness another $1500....all of this added to the cost of random bitsd and pieces AND the cost of a P5.....

taesutkd May-24th-2004 12:44 AM

well the cost doesn't bother me much but i'm not trying to say it's gonna be easy.......when i bought the P5 i wanted to prove a point to a certain person........gotta bet going......i gotta run a integra in January 05....he runs a low 13 right now.........it's something to try but if i can't work there's always other options....

taesutkd May-24th-2004 12:46 AM

and if they get it done don't worry the pics will be everywhere.....

i went from the starting point of 17.2 down to 16.8 (i ran a total of 6 times that night). just practice on your launch to find the 'sweet spot' ;)
