Are you asking about performance mods or cosmetic/convenience mods?
To eliminate wind noise with moonroof open, I added the Mazda moonroof deflector. To alleviate bugs/rocks hitting the hood, I added a hood deflector made by Benevento (not sure of spelling). I had WeatherTech window deflectors on another car, so added those to four windows as a convenience item (can leave windows slightly open in summer and if sudden rain comes, interior is protected). These were personal preference items which some may like or some may view as gaudy or detracting from the look of the P5. I like their functionality, they didn't cost a lot, so they are on there! |
For performance, an intake will probably be your easiest mod to do. Changing the bulbs is also something that is easy to do and is quite popular. Or you can get your ride tinted (I don't count it as a mod but most people do).

if your thinking performance as buddy said you can do intake, or what i did intake, exhaust, resistor and mazdaspeed front end conversion
|
lets see...you can cut the front of ur car off and weld the front of a corvette to it. its sounds simple enuff

How much would the intake mod cost and how much extra HP will it bring?
What would be the best intake in your opinion? Thanks for your help! |
the "search" button is you freind when it comes to questions like this.

I have done some cosmetic mods with a can of spray paint.
Check out my www for pictures. |
best CAI as far as i have been told and also own would be Injen, supposedly supposed to have the best flow. As far as HP gains go your gonna be spending about $250 for 4-5 hp, i would say the intake makes more sound then it does hp.
|
There is an Injen clone on ebay. Much cheaper, it's under 100 bucks.

The AWR exhaust header is good for around 10-12 HP increase for $400.
a cold air intake ($200-$250) will only benefit you with a few HP Exhaust ($300-$600) will prolly give you benefits between the header and the CAI Lowering you car ($400-$800) some aesthetic mods that are easy include clear bumper lenses ($40) Lip/Grille ($100-$300 + painting) Shorty antenna ($20) Painting calipers or valve cover or various engine parts ($9) |
I was thinking more of a turbo charger from HiBoost for $3k but for starters, im prolly gonna go with a exhaust header and cold air intake. I wasnt planning on doing much exterior modding since i like the way the car looks as it is. If anything, im gonna make the turn lights on the front white since my car is silver and i agree with one of the other owners of a p5, the white turn signals look better.

Injen intake/header...did you do this yourself or use a mechanic? Does the intake require any maintenance/periodic checking/adjustment (bear with me, I'm a writer/musician who is just now learning about engines)? Thanks for your help! Ed |
the header will be here in about a week...i'll try to tackle that myself...the intake is a breeze...the only maintenance is cleaning the filter...you can get the cleaning kit for a k&n from advanced auto for $10. all you have to do with the intake is relocate your coolant overflow...and something else...i don't know what it's called, but i'll try to get you some pics tomorrow.
