Tint? You won't seen any performance gains but it will make your car look better.

What honest gains do you tend to see from the CAI? I know it's different for every type of car, and only a fool believes manufacturer claims.;)

hardly any by itself...but open-up the air in...then open-up the air out...and you'll see a nice gain :)

cai by itself...2-3 hp. whoopty shit, right? you see a real gain until you help get that added air into your engine and get it out...so cams, header and catback thrown in with a cai...you've got a pretty nice set-up to build off of. you gotta start with something...and it'll be a mod you do anyway, so why not go ahead and knock it out?

Interesting info. What's your definition of a "nice gain"?:D

Headers/catback/CAI arn't any big deal, but digging into the cams would be a bigger project. Just wondering what you guys think is a worthwhile gain.

How is Mazda about mods? If I use Mazdaspeed parts and have th edealer install them, will it still be covered like TRD stuff? I know I lost my warrenty about 3 days after I bought my car (although I found a mod-friendly dealer), so I was just curious.

Topher February-19th-2004 12:04 PM

unless you go turbo and invest in the hiboost kit (214whp @ 8psi)...5-10 hp on any mod with a p5 is pretty good...the best way is to go turbo...but that's dropping 4K at once. i'm doing all my crap slowly...and i MAY look into a turbo this fall...still haven't decided.

i worked at a mazda dealer...i'm friends with the lead tech and the service manager...so i don't worry about warranty.

So that means you could OEM parts for your car real cheap right? If so, how much does the Mazdaspeed LSD and the black mesh for the upper and lower grilles that come stock on MP3s and P5, cost?

That doesn't really answer the question, but that's for letting us know you have a friend.:p

From the sounds of things, I think I'll stick with suspension mods and not worry about the engine. $4-6k to get 220 at the wheels isn't my idea of money well spent. :D

legally...as long as the mod didn't cause the problem, it must be fixed under warranty...and easier way to do it, is put your stock shit back in when you need warranty work done.

Unless you're like me, and involuntarily get the boost levels saved in your ECU's memory.

"Uhmm, Sir? The stock cobra only makes 8psi. We're showing a reading of 13psi." Me: "What? Really? That's weird..must have been some really cool air that day or something, huh?":D

Topher February-19th-2004 01:30 PM

LoL
that happened to a friend of mine...he was running 13psi in his mazdaspeed and blew the intercooler piping...and then tried to blame it on mazda...now that's just stupid. he did get another dealer to rebuild his engine and give him a new turbo...it all depends on the dealer, i guess.
