What material are OEM brakes made of? Can I use ceramic?

I am shopping for new brakes for my 2002 P5. This will be the first time I am replacing them. Anyone know what the OEM material is for brake pads? I know that ceramic is the best you can buy, but I am wondering if I can use the OEM rotors with ceramic brakes.

OEM's are usually semi metallic's, dpending on the build location and date...ceramics are fine, although they will wear a stock rotor faster...make sure you have enough thickness left on the stockers, otherwise replace them too

A local auto parts store sells non-asbestos "organic" pads. Any ideas how these measure up to semi-metallic or ceramic?
