weak ac
Just tried my AC for the first time today in my 2002 ES. It was blowing out cold air but even afer running it for 45 minutes the car never really seemed to get cool. I've been in cars where I would start shivering with the ac on full fo that long. I tried the recycle setting, it made the air blowing out seem a little cooler but still didn't seem to do too much for the ambient temperature. Anyone have any suggestions?

If all your hoses are connected correctly and you have no fan problems, take it to your dealer. the system is pretty complex with all kinds of valves and misc parts to foul up. If you got a shit mix of refrigerent for some reason that could cause it to not get real cold too.
If you were driving around in bright sunlight that could also give the a/c a hell of a time keeping the interior temp down. My P5 is black, and the A/C is great at keeping the interior cold. The hottest day i used it was today and it was about 90* in the sun. So if everything checks out take it to your dealer |
My Protege5's AC seems weak also. The fan is strong, but the air that comes out even at the coldeset setting is only cool.
My brother's car, a Camry has much better and more frigid AC, and its 4 years old. |
I live in AZ and we had our first 100 degree day on Sunday and my A/C worked great. A couple of things to keep in mind. If your car is parked uncovered, it's hot outside, and your windows aren't tinted, it will take a long time for the A/C to cool your interior down. A lot of stop and go traffic also doesn't allow for sufficient air flow over the engine. This probably isn't a problem for most people. But in AZ our cars need as much air intake as it can get. Bumper to bumper traffic and 115 degrees really suffocates a car's ability to "breathe".

i noticed this yesterday also.. the ac sucks in the mp3... and there must be some connection with former VW owners that got mazda's... bc i used to own a 2001 VW Golf TDI and the ac in that was great and got really cold... but it also killed performance greatly... but i usually never use the AC b/c i like the windows open...

Ahoy,
When I first tried my a/c it didn't work. It would start cool, get cooler, then blow hot, moist air. Took it back to the dealership. The guy put a themometer in a vent for a few minutes...Came to find me. When he left the car it was cool, but the while looking for me, the 5 minutes went by, and it was blowing 27centigrade(85 or so f). He replaced a condenser... When my stereo was put in, the heater cable was unclipped. If you take the front facia of the cable will disconnect. Take it back to the dealer- my air blows cold. So can yours. |

I 'm sorry to hear that your A/C is not working "up to snuff", as my Pro5's air is GREAT! and here in Sunny California it gets HOT!
Have your dealer check it out the next time your in for 'Service" Later, Speedbump |
