Weranty question on aftermarket parts
 

Hello to everyone first. I have always done all of the work under the hood on my old car. But recently I became proud owner of the '02 Protege LX and car is still under waranty. I know that I don't have to wory about that if I buy Mazda certified parts and have them install parts for me. But that is not fun plus they know to kill on the bill. So, what can I do to the car that will not touch my waranty since I kind of already done some thing so it (Air intake)? Will they revoke my waranty if I take it to the shop and they see it. I live in Jacksonville, FL and this is important to me.

What about a cat-back exhaust? Not much power, but it sounds cool and its a start.

I messed up so what. I just moved here and English is my second language, so lay off or help if you want.

An air-intake might be good and most likely it won't affect your warranty, but some dealerships can be pricks.

My local dealer told me anything I do will void my warranty. My coilovers have voided the suspension components, but oh well on that one, but a CAI will void the warranty on my engine, they tell me, and have even went so far as to say a Short Shifter will void my transmission warranty. I got some tough guys at my local dealer. Hmmmm...:rolleyes:

i don't know the law but i'm sure THE MAN put it in the FAQ. as a consumer you have the right to put different parts on a car than factory, but the part itself is the direct cause for the part to fail, then it could void the warranty, in that case, put the stock stuff on :) if you have a CAI and your alternator goes out, how does the CAI have any affect on this.

I have a 01 protege and have had repeated problems with my trans. I put an ingen cold air intake into my car and mazda voided my warranty on my trans, so if you are gonna put any performance products in your car i would suggest that you make sure that they don't cause a problem or that you take them out before getting your car serviced by mazda.

Ever heard of SEMA? Specialty Equipment Manufacturer's Association....

This group decided their members would sell more parts if there were fewer warranty hassles, so they spent lots of time and money to lobby for a law (in the US) that would protect their customers against over zealous dealers and manufacturers.

What resulted is a code that, in short, states: The manufacturer must prove that the aftermarket part was the cause, or directly related to the cause, of a failure before they could legally decline to honor the original warranty.

This means they may have a legitimate complaint about your lowered springs if you suffer premature suspension wear, but this in no way affects the warranty on the rest of your car. I would seriously doubt that they could prove a link between a cold air intake and transmission failure.

Hit the WWW for stuff related to SEMA for the specifics. I have know knowledge of what they may have undertaken in Canada.
