I tried to get a pic of the 2" piping connected to the mazdaspeed axel back in the last 3 pics but they didn't come out too good.

Thanks!
No, we don't get to see this here - and it is neat to see how they laid it out.

amrit Jan 26, 2007 08:57 AM

There was minor adjustments made to the mazdaspeed exhaust when it was installed because the guy said that the muffler was for the normal 2wd.

If you notice, there's supposed to be a piece connecting the barrel to the tip but that was removed and the tip was welded directly to the barrel because the muffler was jutting out more than it should.

There was also a piece of the muffler that was connected to the back of the barrel which supposed to bolt on to the exhuast piping but that was removed as well. This can't be seen in the pic though.

No - i meant how Mazda laid out the AWD system! I see the shaft ran down the passenger side...

Roddimus Prime Jan 29, 2007 08:47 AM

how much do awd proteges go for in trinidad? That would be a fun project

amrit Jan 29, 2007 12:19 PM

Yeah Da P-Funk, i only realised that i asked a stupid question until after i read your reply.

Well Rod, they don't sell awd proteges here.
Well not locally anyways. What I mean by that is that the dealerships don't have them.
My car was a direct import from Japan and at the time of the purchase, it cost me $47,000TTD.
That's roughly $7,500USD

Roddimus Prime Jan 29, 2007 12:49 PM

that would be fun to have an awd 1.5L protege as a daily driver with a little boost and less weight.

amrit Jan 29, 2007 04:01 PM

oh trust me! it's alot of fun! and since i installed the new suspension, it's alot more fun!

boost will be comin' soon, hopefully (:

i'll keep you guys posted.

Roddimus Prime Jan 29, 2007 04:36 PM

that's a pretty stout engine from the factory isn't it? I know the 1.6's are pretty tough. How do the 1.5Ls hold up?

I'd LOVE to crank some power out of that thing.

amrit Jan 30, 2007 12:59 PM

Yeah the engine is stock, direct from the factory, and it's pretty tough!
I drive this car so hard sometimes that i'm surprised i hadn't any majors problems engine wise. Don't even talk about the clutch, that thing took so much beatings from me and it's still in great health.

Japan gets all the fun versions...that's so cool you have one. That would be with a pretty sweet project. I would think the 1.5 would hold up fairly well, as you attest to. The 1.5 (Z5, the basis for the ZL, apparently) in my car, with an larger intake (very important to liveliness), loves to run up and down the rev range. And run it I do. Zero problems @ 105k miles.

Apparently 2nd gens came with AWD too, just not here in the states...and with some interesting engines (f.y.i. in case any of you wanted to know).

Thanks for the pics!

Hey no problem man. I'm always glad to share and I wish we had the MP3 here, we don't have that :(

Currently my engine's at 140k and still running smooth!
