two questions

1) What is the recommended solenoid weight needed when you have shaved doors?

2) Does anyone know of where to find the Lambo door conversion kits for the Protege?

onehawaiian September-18th-2003 08:02 PM

onehawaiian September-18th-2003 10:31 PM

the ones where they open up backwards, like in the matrix.
i think one of the new saturns has suicide doors.
that's what it was called back in the day...

I don't know if it'll help but I saw an add for universal lambo, suicide door hinge kits in my sport compact car mag., I'll try and find a # or something for you.

are suicide doors called that because if you jump out while its moving you'll hit the door?

ZoomZoomBlue September-21st-2003 03:15 PM

i believe the term suicide doors came from the 1930's gangster days because you had to climb into the car head first, thus leaving yourself out there for another gangster to make the hit.

onehawaiian September-21st-2003 04:00 PM

can u imagine it? suicide doors on a p5? daaaammmnnn....
that would be one badass ride...

vivid03mp5 September-23rd-2003 10:41 AM

mabe on the rear doors. so when you had the front and rear doors open they would face eachother. that would be cool.

RHAGEL September-25th-2003 11:59 AM

Lamorghinis dont have suicide doors, they are scissor syle and are a pain in the ass. I do have to say that suicide doors would be pretty fuckin cool though.

The universal kit is from AutoLoc (http://www.autoloc.com)
There is two version one for $1900 and one for $2500, the only difference is that the higher one is motorized.

There is really no kit for the protege, but there is a protege that has them. Check out this link

Ive seen a few that have them too. Since I posted the thread, Im talked to a couple companies that make the Lambo door kits and they told me there is no particular kit designed specifically for the Protege, but with a few modifications a universial kit could fit.

b_real45 September-25th-2003 03:41 PM

OMG! With all this talk about Lambo doors, suicide doors, shaved handles, I thought I was in a Honda forum!

Hey.. do you think anyone will make a Protege-R badge? I'm looking for some! I think it'd be cool too if I can make my seat swivle out of the car. Oh oh.. what about making the hatch fold down like the back of a pickup truck? That'd be phat! And maybe that we can find someone to design us a craddle so we can swap in a Honda D16Y motor!

OK! Let the old man explain. Suicide door are the doors that open from the front. Back in the old days, even before my time, the locking system on the doors was less to be desired and had no seat belts. The doors would open due to the wind as you drive and people would fall out of the cars.
