Turbo P5

As I am about to purchase a P5, I did not want to find out that a turbo is about to come out. So I contacted my source at Sport Compact Car, he said as far he knows no turbo P5 but the MP3 turbo will be here before years end. He also said to watch the New York Auto Show this week for an announcement from Mazda.
I for one am not too dissapointed, as I already have a fast car (1967 Lotus Elan- 130hp but only 1400lbs.) and the P5 is to be my daily driver/work vehicle. By living in metro Boston the insurance is insane, so a turbo would only make it worse. If the P5 is not fast enough, you should have bought the WRX Wagon, but remember it's not how fast you go it's how well you go fast.

be sure to check out my website as I photograph cars and rallying for a living. www.morgansegal.com

For those of you who can't afford a P5 or need another cool vehicle I am selling my Ford Escort Wagon-take a look, it is not as bad as it sounds http://www.cwl.com/bensrallypage/for...al_escort.html

Sweet... You're from Somerville... I work in Porter Sq. Just picked mine up a few weeks ago.

You'll love it!

All those Rally pics and only one of Frank & Dan Sprongl...shame you don't have more Canadians...

Actually there is also a photo of Patrick Richard and some photos from the Rally Auto Charlevoix. I have many other Canadians but they are just not currently on the site. Mainly I cover American Rallying and only the newer cars since that is what manufacturers want to see. The Sprongls' Audi is a bit out of date, they have now retired the car.
I spent three years restoring the Lotus. That car is so much fun! Actually the P5 handles similiarly.

Crap, now I can't get the silver!:D Actually, I saw it, next to Porter Exchange, right? I am deciding on Silver or Blue. We'll have to hook up!

Get a P5, please, there are so few around here, and the ones I see never come on this board, I love mine more than anything. I have a base black p5.

Admitedly, I didn't look too closely at the Subaru pics, so you're right, there could be a Pat Richard pic in there...I just hope that he eventually finds his way to a Prodrive ride in the WRC...he tested with them last year.

Frank retired the car, not out of concern that it was too old, but he blew up the last Audi Competition aluminum block at the Rocky Mountain Rally two (I think, it may actually be three now, they all blur together...I'll have to review my CARS Rally footage on tape archive again soon) years ago...they never got it running the same again, as a standard iron block holds about 100 less bhp than the competition block could...so coupled with age and weight, the big 'ol Quatro S2 just can't keep up anymore. That certainly doesn't hold back a few people in the US from running them though, as I found another shot of a similar car... I wonder where the Quatro S2 of Libra Racing (Buffum / Choinere's last Audi factory ride went too...it was for sale on their website about a year ago).

If your Protege-5 handles nearly the same as your Lotus Elan, there's something wrong here. Neither of my two Proteges handles anywhere near that of my Miata, and I've slalomed against Elans with the Miata and always walked away impressed with them...

JB's Quattro is still at his shop. Remember the Elan is over thirty five years old, and stiill the handling is amazing. The cars you autocross were likely prepared for autocrossing with many suspension upgrades. I have only driven the P5 on test drives and haven't had the chance to push it, so I may be talking out my ass, but what I meant is it is similiar in feel. The limits of handling on the Elan I am sure are low compared to modern cars, but what is special is the feel and the fact it is so light (1400lbs) allows it to change direction quickly.
Here is some photos I took from the Cherokee Trails rally in Tennessee

I have been seeing a silver P5 parked in front of the Fleet bank everyday in Porter sq next to Porter Exchange, but that is a few blocks before where you say you are.
