Trunk lid adjustment
 

I recently addded a rear spoiler to my 01 DX and now the wife is whining about the weight of the trunk lid. Is there an adjustment I can make to the "springs" that will help? Do I need to buy springs made for the added weight of the spoiler? Any Ideas Thanks BB

One thing you can do. There is a small rubber weight bolted into the underside of the trunk lid, on the driver's side. It is held on by 2 10MM nuts, and is about 6" long, made of metal, with a small 2" cylinder-shaped chunk of rubber stuck to it right in the middle. I don't know why it's even there, perhaps to give the trunk a more "solid" feel when you are opening and closing it. It weighs about a pound, so you could ditch this piece. If you got a large chrome "Mazda" license plate frame, the ones that are written in black script that everyone seems to like, you could also get a lighter frame. As for the trunk springs, I see different notches where they attach under the rear deck, but I don't know the procedure/outcome of changing to a different notch. How about it Brainiacs?

There are actually different sized balancing rods you can get from Mazda to compensate for the trunk and the new weight of the spoiler. I know Rod hates dealers, but if you're lucky and have a dealer like mine, they were willing to throw the spoiler rods in for free. They supposedly come with the spoiler kit from the factory. I didn't need both, I only needed one. If I put on both it sprung up when the latch was popped.

is the 2000 dx supposed to have springs for the trunk lid?

they aren't springs, they are counterbalance rods.

I used a spring off a volvo...works great...there are 2 mounting points to hang a spring that were perfect...i'll try and get a pic

mine doesn't have springs or counter balance rods... so when somebody else closes it they think they have to press really hard and end up slamming it really hard... this is on a 2000 dx..

your gonna fu** something up like that.
