Trouble Codes And Rough Idle, 99 Protege

Put on new brake shoes on 99 Protege LX, 1.6 , and changed the oil. Started up to test drive , and it stumbled hard. Realized that it had little gas, so added five gallons, and today , problem is worse. Enigne light comes on one time, and not next. Took off battery cable to reset, but still the same. Any help would be appreciated.

if it throws a code, it will be stored even if the light turns off....get the codes read

macdaddy, is there a thread on how to get codes and a list of them? I know how to do it on my 90 RX7, but this is a new one to me. This is bosses wife car, so I don't want to look stupid in asking him. Thanks for the help!

take it to an Auto zone or Advance auto and they'll pull all the codes for free and tell you what they mean.

Well, we had a guy test for codes , and there were no codes at all. Nothing stored, period.
Had check engine light this am, but now no codes, WTF. Car is acting like it is running on 2 cylinders. Any ideas how jacking up car to put on brakes, draining and changing oil, and close to running out of gas could cause this? Clogged injector from sediment in tank?
I'm at a loss.

Thanks for any ideas!

Sorry guys, moron wasn't intended for this site. My applogies. It turns out that someone had pressure washed the engine bay, and water had got to the plugs. Running great now. Thanks for the help, and again, appologies to all.
