Transmission Fluid by Rediline (MT90)

Just wanted to let people in the Calgary area know that if you are changing your manual transmission fluid, and are looking to use Redline (I highly recommend, as it is what I use) you can find it at Guyons on Edmonton trail.

MT90 was $13, which is about half the Mazda dealership wanted for it.

MTL is available as well, but the Protégé 2.0 L spec says 75W90, so the MT90 is the way to go. I am sure MTL would work, but I don't want to get into a hairy mess with warranty if something ever went wrong.

I was having difficulty finding it in Calgary, and I just wanted to share this to save others time in having to phone all over the place. I am sure there are other places that sell it for maybe even cheaper, but I never came across them....yet.

Power to the Protégé people!

I have been using it for the last 30k.. This stuff is great. I find the smoothness went away after 10k so i changed mine again and my tranny is silky smooth. I love it.. I buy gallon jugs, i have to order mine since no one local carries it.

Wow, you change it every 10k. I am planning on doing it just every 70K or so.

I am about to change it at 20K..
I think it will be ok to change it every 30k... 70K?? maybe too much for it..

Btw, for MT90, go check www.myoilshop.com even with s&h, I think it's a decent deal..

Yeah I am going to stick to 70K (kilometers). Unless you are grinding your gears a lot I don't see a reason to change it every 30k. The oil shouldn't be breaking down under normal temperatures, and there are no combustion products that required additives in your transmission oil.

Mazda doesn't even have a reccomended change interval for our transmission oil. You could never change it and still be covered under warranty. I bet if you tested the transmission oil that was in a car that was treated properly even after 100K you'd find the fluid was still good.

The main reason i changed mine was because I wanted to have synthetic for cold weather starts.
