What do you think?

MP3-Owner February-2nd-2002 04:48 PM

:thumbs do Fugly...I think they tried too hard to make something out of nothing.

Makaveli February-2nd-2002 05:42 PM

FUGLYYYY

not a minivan, not a hatchback, not an SUV, it's a UV, ugly vehicle!!!

Looks are horrible, but supposedly performance is not bad, isn't it six speed?

catchme February-2nd-2002 06:58 PM

Actually the performance is crap, the biggest engine they have for it is crap. Yeah it's got a 6 speed gear box 180hp, but that doesn't mean anything, you gotta look at the tork, and on this car it is really bad, it's a 6 speed 180hp-130lbs/ft, and as far as i'm concerned that's bad, and even there smaller engine is bad it's only 1.8L 123hp-119lbs/ft. Cause me I don't go by horsepower I go by tork, if you got more tork than hp, you will have more power and better excelleration, and the protoge's biggest engine is 130hp-135lbs/ft, it not a lot but it makes a diff, the only good thing I think about the Matrix is that you can get it in all wheel drive.

Eric F February-2nd-2002 08:17 PM

catchme, you have a valid point, but it's spelled 'torque'. ;)

oops.......my bad, it was late when I did this.....tierd, sorry.

chdesign February-4th-2002 07:21 AM

Very true not much torque but then again look at the Integra GSR 175 HP but no torque I think the numbers are in the low 130's but the teg can still spank our proteges and you slap a F-max turbo kit on it and bam you have 300+ HP so don't knock the Matrix just yet...when the celica came out the aftermarket exploded on it and it may be the same with the matrix since it can start out at 180HP....just a thought.

soundguy February-4th-2002 09:53 PM

Base to Base the Mp5 rules 2.0L vx wimppy 1.8L and its a Mazda MP5

it's a UV, ugly vehicle!!!
:bt:

soundguy February-4th-2002 10:23 PM

Sorry! MP5 or is it a PRO5? no one seems to consistant!!
BTW I was being assertive!!:the finge

mazda2005 February-7th-2002 11:56 AM

i'd just like to use this moment to say that the matrix is one of the ugliest vehicles ever. i can't even stand looking at it. :squint:

eeterp February-7th-2002 01:24 PM

my friend, you have never seen the Aztec! THAT is the ugliest road-going "thing" ever. The matrix isn't a looker, but I wouldn't mind having that horsepower in a pro. Give toyota credit for having the balls to give a car some umph.

Eric F February-7th-2002 02:04 PM

I'll give them credit, but they can still keep the car...

sunbyrne February-7th-2002 05:28 PM

It's not as ugly as an Aztek, but it kinda looks like a cross between a Corolla and an Aztek, especially the Pontiac Vibe version of the car.

It's also the least ballsy 180 hp ever--no torque. I'd rather have 150 hp and 150 torque at reasonable rpms than the 180/130 combo in the Matrix. And that 130 torque is not achieved until 6800 rpms! This has to be the most gutless 180 hp engine ever--it won't feel any faster than the current P5, I bet, and I'd be stunned if it handled even nearly as well.

Has anyone been smoking whatewer toyota has been smoking lately?

I know a dozen or so new celica owners who have had to bring their car back for waranty weekly. From the electronics to the engine, they aren't going for the same reliability they used to do I guess. I havent met many people with 2000 or newer toyota anything that has been trouble free.. unless of course its an old old woman who doesnt use anything on it. I love american cars and all.. but I think this whole GM-Toyota alliance has really effected the production of Toyotas now. :thumbs do
While ironically the saturn returns have really improved to where I woulda never believed it to happen.

That's a good point. Mazda is still made all in Japan. Toyota Matrix they clearly say it was designed in California.
