Timing Belt

Im getting ready to replace my timing belt, regulat maintanance style, anything else i should replace while im at it?

kargoboy September-10th-2006 06:48 PM

Yes, I believe it may be in your best interest to replace the water pump while you are down there, iirc.

Roddimus Prime September-10th-2006 10:19 PM

water pump
accessory belts
coolant
T-stat (I suggest a 180* unit)
upper and lower hoses and possibly clamps as well

Take this time to clean everything thoroughly and inspect everything.

phals September-11th-2006 07:44 PM

should i replace the tensioner and idler as well?

99ES September-12th-2006 08:42 PM

kid prodigy September-12th-2006 11:59 PM

Hey, at what milage are you suppose to do that service at?

KrayzieFox September-13th-2006 03:24 PM

I think it's recommended at 60,000

crowfive September-13th-2006 03:47 PM

anyone have any estimates on parts costs if i were to do this myself.

phals September-14th-2006 03:26 PM

Ok kind of a dumb question, i didnt order a new gasket for the water pump, will i be ok to use the old one or should i hold out for a few more days?

KrayzieFox September-14th-2006 03:41 PM

Definately wait on that and get a new gasket. You should never really reuse any gasket unless it's in really really good shape, which doesn't happen very often. Better safe than sorry right?

Da P-Funk! September-16th-2006 12:50 PM

^Yeah. I re-used mine - but i KNOW at some point i will have to swap it out.... [cringe]
