Thinking of buying a Protege/5 few ???

Hello all!

I just want to know what I can expect from the 2.0L 16v motor. With a CIA and exhaust how many ponies will be found? any dynos out there proving this? where are some good aftermarket parts sites?

Also what is the limit for a NA 2.0 engine? I've had a VW for a couple years and 190 hp NA is not difficult from the 2.0L 16v.

One more thing...What gives the MP3 10 more hp than the Protege and Protege 5? bigger vavles, intake, etc???? Is it possible to squize those hp out of a Pro/5?

Thanks, mike.

P.S. see me sig below for what I don't see as mods, the list could go on.

you can swap parts in from the j-spec version, cams and all that good stuff. people are lookin at around 103whp i think with just intakes if i remember seeing a dyno correctly on here. there are aftermarket turbo's for fairly cheap (not NA, i know!) aftermarket is blowing up for the 2.0l's. as for why the mp3 has 10 more hp, i believe it's due to the ECU being programmed differently (someone correct me if i'm wrong.) welcome to the board!

The MP3 achieved 10hp three ways: sport exhaust (about 2.5hp), KandN air filter (about 2.5 hp) and the re-programmed ECU (about 5). Of course these simple mods kept the car within the emissions and durability parameters that are necessary for a OEM product.

also the MP3 was programed to handle 91 octain gas properly

that would certainly be what a re-programmed ecu would be all about!

Can I program my ECU?

Is there a way that I can reprogram my ECU so that my car handle 91 octane gas?

the mp3 got revised timing maps, and a sport muffler only. (not a cat back) it did NOT get a K&N filter.

my opinion: the mp3 really only gets better handling, because all the extras it got (wheels, ground effects, bigger wing, etc.) made it weigh more, and off sets the gains seen from the power bump.
