taking off the pounds

Ok, i'm not try to race it or anything yet but a good start is to got the cars wieght down, and I'm keeping my Bumps and my back seat. The spair tire is the first thing. What else, and where can i take off weight without making this an expensive project!I drive a 2000 Lx 1.6l A/T, I hate automatics!

ok, i think this is very overrated (the weight shaving thing) unless you're looking to spend money and get rid of crap. i've tested this, and talked to others who are really into racing about it. and i'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me. i tested my car at the track, with all the stock crap in the car, plus my speaker box (almost 100lbs) for three runs. then, i tried it with the rear seats ripped out, spare taken out, and speaker box taken out. same results on time slips. then, the next time at the track, i left all the shit in, but had only difference was, i had the injen cai in. that was the only time i noticed a diff. :| i know a lot of people are gonna disagree probably, but this was just from personal experience.

I can feel a difference, and have different times if I run with a friend next to me and with a full tank of gas VS a quarter tank and no friend.
but thats just me, and some cars are different.:D

Weight reduction will definately make a difference in performance. That includes handling and brake, as well as accelleration. It takes a decent amount of weight reduction to make a difference though. Removing the foam rear seat bottom that weighs all of 4 lbs isn't going to do anything. A sub box and the spare tire should probably be noticable. At the moment I have my entire interior remove from my car, except for the dash, drivers seat and door panel. No spare tire, jack, carpet, trim, seats, console, stereo, speakers, etc. It's a noticable difference, but how many people want to go through all that? It's just temporary for me, so I can add some sound deadening material.

More horsepower will make you go faster, but reducing weight (alone) will make you go faster and stop faster, plus you get better mileage thrown in too boot.

Best of all is reducing unsprung weight which will make you go faster, stop faster and handle significantly better.

it aint worth the hassel in my opinion. i did this to my old crx and i went all out i had 1 seat and the dash inside thats it. it got very hot in the summer cause i also took out the ac unit completely. i good estimate in quarter mile times in for every 100lbs. your take off your car youll drop about .1 of a second on your 1320ft. time

havent really raced my p5 on a track or anything, but for me theres a major difference when i got other people in the car, especially 4. man when i get 4 people in that wagon theres a HGUE difference. you can seriously feel it lacking in power. dont mean to scare anyone thats planning on getting it, but im just being critical about the weight thing
