Synthetic Oil Filter for Mazda P2 2002
 

Wondering if there is anyone who's using synthetic oil for their Proteges, I can't seem to find any in the Stores other than the Net....

Just Hit 100,000 after a long trip from Canada all the way to south carolina with no problems at all ...The engine still sounds great!

Also any recomendations for Spark Plugs? I used Iridium and NGK...both yielded nice mileage but I still haven changed the cables....I heard they are expensive for this car....

Also anyone having prolbems with their brake calipers rusting too quickly, well up here since we use salt to keep the roads clean might be a reason, btu I've seen other calipers that do not rust so easy, I think the quality of the calipers is not as good...any comments?

no such thing as a "synthetic oil filter". What I would suggest is a WIX or NAPA brand oil filter. They are probably the best filters on the market.

As for plugs I will never go back to standard NGK's after I've run these new NGK Laser Iridiums. They are awesome. They instantly smoothed out my idle and give me a nice clean pull through the rpm band.

If you DO replace the wires you will need both the 2 wires and 2 boots for the coil packs. I'd suggest either NGK blues or NAPA's Belden Premium Blues. The NGK's are the best but the Beldens are a good compromise between quality and cost.

Believe the 2 best extra guard napa filter really made my car run newer with synthetic walmart fluid, couldnt afford the mobil synthetic that people suggested at the time. Wish I had used the better filters on some of my older cars, prob would have last longer.

Actually Matt, there is such a thing as a synthetic oil filter. Amsoil makes one, and I suspect there are others that do. It uses a fully synthetic filter media. For information follow the link below.

Not to be picky but here is an overly simple definition of the word "synthetic"

synthetic: produced artificially; not natural


So technically speaking ALL filters are synthetic. What I was saying was that there is not a filter made specifically for synthetic oils. I thought that was what he was asking.

p.s. I'm not an amsoil fan. I deal with these "good ole boys" everyday who always swear allegiance to some product because "my deddy been usin' this fer years. It never dun tore up his tractor none so it's good enough fer my ca-maro." I figure if Amsoil was so good manufacturers like Porsche and BMW would recommend it for their products instead of the much cheaper and more available mobil1.

Sorry, my bad. I misunderstood what you meant by that. I also wonder why amsoil isn't more readily available, but neither is royal purple or redline. At least not around here.

Royal Purple is fairly new and hasn't really established the word of mouth reputation that products like "Lucas" have. My store stocks the major oil brands and Royal Purple. We carry some Redline products but only their gear oils.

Thanks for the feedback, Ill give NAPA a try, the reaso I asked about the synthetic oil filter was cuz i saw one made by "FRAM" but was unsure if this was a normal filter witht eh word "synthetic" on it.

I laso read an article where this group did a study where the oil was not changed until 10,000 kilometers but the only thing that was changed was the filter ever 5K...reason they stated the oil performs better as it gets older when i find the link again ill post it in here.

oil doesn't get better with age. It just doesn't. Oil (90% of whats on the market today) is a petroleum base with natural or synthetic additives to clean, prevent foaming, reduce heat, etc etc etc. These additives breakdown with wear and heat.

Now the additives being used are getting better so oil can go longer without changing but it still must be changed.
