static shock!

ok, i'm not sure if it's just me or what, but i get shocked EVERY time i get out of my car. it doesn't matter what shoes i'm wearing, i still get shocked. :( it's really weird because my girlfriend never gets zapped. i know when i first got my P5, there was some static on the seats, but this is getting ridiculous! the bugger hurts! anyone know of how to get rid of the static electricity? i tried touching the key to the black frame of the door but it shocks even harder. i have resorted to sliding in and out of my car without touching anything metal, so my windows have fingerprints all over them. my mom uses this anti static thing for her clothes that comes in a spray bottle... think this will help? talk about physical attractions!

It happens to me too, but not just with the P5. I usually touch the car with my knuckles first to get rid of the built up static. It doesn't hurt as much. I think its the way you drive, i like to slide my foot from brake to accelerator a lot and the floor mats build up static, maybe?

Funny that you mentioned that because I get shocked every time I get out of the car as well. Ill be looking back if anyone comes up with a solution. I would have to assume the shock is due to the type of fabric the seat is made.

Try looking this up...There was some good info on this before.

did a search and found some good solutions... just in case anyone wants to know:

a. grab door frame, hood, whatever is metal on the car, then step out.

b. static gard your seats, floormats, and whatever else.

c. fabric softener + water sprayed on seats and floor = sweet smelling car with no static shock.

so yeah... i guess i have found the answer on this here forum. sweet! thanks everyone.

Dude, your not the only one. I have no idea what to do.

it works! i didn't want to get shocked today, so i started grabbing the black part around my door and stood up from the seat normally and didn't get shocked! what a relief! i've been experimenting with what part of the car works best and is most convenient holding on my way out because i still look awkward doing it, but so far, the door seems most natural and is very effective in eliminating the shock aspect of driving this car. i was told i would be "shocked" with the amount of fun i would have driving this car, but i didn't think to take it literally!

Could you tell us what's so special about today? hahaha.. j/k :D

I'd rather not be shocked every single day :)

Good to hear that you managed to find the solution in the forums by a search (was too lazy to find it an copy it here again).

Try this. When you're getting out of the car, shift/rotate your a$$ first (and keep it in contact with the seat) so that your left foot (or even both feet) is on the ground. Then just use your right hand to grab the top of the door and sort of "pull" yourself up (just don't put too much weight on the door).

Looks more "natural" that way..

And yes, practice makes perfect. :D

after i threw in seat covers ive never gotten shocked.. but before i had them i would get a suprise every time i steped out of my car.. i guess the only way to counter that is to hold on to the metal while you get out
