When an Import is shipped overseas they put a coating on the engine to prevent the salt water from corroding it. When you first get your car it is still there and needs to be burned off. How do you burn it off? Heat up engine. How do you heat up engine in a hurry? Rev it high/drive it hard. What kind of smell does this coating produce? Rotten eggs smell. I have a 2002 Silver ES GT.....i street race all the time. Smell went away in a week. Hope this answers the question.

Very interesting topic, I have never run into this problem with any of my cars..I guess it's just luck..or possibly coincidence..

its not that your car is tuned RICH...but if you are pushing it hard...you are most likely at WOT a lot...in which case the mixture is rich when at WOT....you may be getting a fair amount of raw fuel into the exhaust...and its makes the CAT hoter...and it stinks....one thing to keep from smelling it is....well if you run with your windows UP....put your air on recirc...that way it won't be pulling in the air from the outside after you slow and stop and the stink raises and gets pulled in.
its worth a shot. |
