Side-View Mirrors....issue with them...
 

i test drove a P5 the other day (looking to pick one up) and it seemes like a very good car...one problem however, is that the side view mirrors do not have the greatest adjustability...i had to set them all the way out to be able to get a good view along side of the car...anything less and all you'd be looking at were the rear doors...anyone else notice this? are there any "better" options to fix this, i.e. new mirror housings, etc???

Can't you just rotate the mirror housing itself? My girlfriend had the same issue with her 99 ES until I showed her how to adjust the entire housing.

You could get the APC mirrors - aftermarket M3 style stuff. They look nice.

As far as I know, however, they don't have power units, only manual adjustment.

Never noticed any problem here and I'm pretty paranoid about getting a good view outta my mirrors. Are you really short or really tall or something? Not being a wise guy, just asking becuasethese mirrors seems as adjustable to me as any others I've ever seen. Sorry I can't relate.

I think pantherES is on the right track. Somebody probably bumped the mirror or played with the mirror, so the housing is positioned incorrectly.

The other issue is that the driver side mirror vibrates at highway speeds.

If I read ggweci's post carefully, it sounds quite normal. If the seat is adjusted all the way back, I would suggest that most people do need the P5 mirrors adjusted to the furthest out positions to get the 'correct' visibility. Note that he did not say he could not get them adjusted properly, he said he needed them set all the way out. That is what I do, and I don't consider it a problem at all. If I can get it set perfectly, which I can, I don't care if the setting happens to be right at the extreme limit. So I don't understand the concern.

Yeah - I'm pretty tall and I have the same problem. I had to adjust my mirrors all the way out, and they're still not out far enough for me to be happy with it.

If you can see ANY of your car in the mirror, you don't have the mirror out far enough and your visibility is drastically reduced and your blind spot is drastically increased.

I like to have the mirrors WAY out so I have no blind spot. Something I could do in my escort, but not with my p5... :(

I guess mirror adjustment is personal preference... I do like to just barely see the side of my car in the mirrors. If the mirrors are aimed further out I think you'll find that 50 feet back you are not looking at the important lane beside you but 2 lanes over or at the curb/median/ditch. So also causes a blind spot.... for example If you're sitting in stopped traffic but the lane beside you is moving at full speed, you can miss someone when you go to change lanes...

I'm only 5'10" and I have the same problem. I cannot adjust the mirror out far enough, for my liking. Even at the extreme, I still see a little of the car. The causes a blind spot next to me and I have to be very dilligent to turn around and look before changing lanes. You should anyway, but I don't like the lack of adjustability. If you move the whole housing, it is no longer in the detent and will probably either vibrate, or just rotate back around from the wind. Get used to it, unless there is an aftermarket that works.

I dont have this problem. Works fine for me.But then again, I dont sit as far back as the seat takes me. I prefer a sportier driving experience.:)
