Exhaust filter - how can adding an obstruction increase flow and reduce backpressure, as Kaleco claims? This does not make sense.

Air Filter Bypass Kit - Spend the extra fifteen bucks on a genuine CAI or SRI. These types of intakes are proven to make you more power, time and time again. Especially true for CAI, to a lesser extent, SRI.

Camshaft Rotational Damper - the website asks "cams spinning out of control?". Actually, they are not. Cams (and other rotational items inside of an engine, such as the crank) are made to super precise tolerances, and critical surfaces (lobes and bearing race contact points) are ground to ultra tight tolerances. Improving the balance of these parts could smooth out idle, but idle quality is already quite good in a stock Protege. Adding mass to any rotational item costs hp, as the engine must work to spin that mass. That is why there are lightened underdrive pulleys, lightened flywheels, lightened pistons, and for some engines even balance shaft removal kits. Less of this mass means more hp available to move the vehicle. Remember that idle quality goes to hell anyhow when more aggressive cams are dropped in. But this has nothing to do with rotational balance, and everthing to due with thermodynamics. Listen to any serious drag car, and you'll notice a lumpy idle due to lots of intake/ exhaust overlap.

I'll stop there. IMO, the above products from Kaleco are not founded on engineering principle, and will not benefit you at all. There is no data to suggest otherwise.

If you want to increase hp, start here:
1) E-Bay CAI - $25-50
2) E-Bay catback exhaust - $200
3) OBX header & MIL eliminator - $220
The above does not include shipping, and is only an estimate. But I think for less than five hundred bucks, you should be able to wring some more hp out of your car quite easily. This is just a staring point. There are many other things that can be done later.

If you are looking for a good aftermarket source, a lot of us buy stuff from other members on this forum, so check out the vendor and for sale areas. Also try Wagner Motorsports, Cork Sport, & Protege5 Online. I also have had good luck with Nopi and Summit for this and previous sport compacts that I have owned.

Muffler bearings were first upgrade....really smoothed out my shifting and mpg.

p.s. we already have exhaust filters....they're called catalytic converters.

Hahah, I personally like the "extra retardent plugs"!! But if you look around the site, you do find jokes that have a little humor, like the 4 peice lowering kit which is four nails, and say to insert one per tire for an instantly lowered car! I'm ordering three of them tonight! Also the synthetic blinker fluid is nice, and seems to be of high quality, highly recommended.
