Service Manual

For all of you who would like a service manual for the 3rd gen Proteges, but didn't want to pay the high price for a factory manual, this is the response I got from Haynes about them publishing a manual for the 3rd Gens.

Dear Sir:

Thank you for your interest in Haynes Manuals.
We have released in January new updated manual
#61015 which now covers the vehicle thru 2001.
Sincerely,

Carl Armstrong

Bear in mind, however, that the Haynes/Chilton manual is NOT the FSM (Factory Service Manual) that you can find at your dealership. The Haynes manual is helpful, but is nowhere near in detail as the FSM.

Where can I get a factory service manual? Everyone keeps telling me the service manuals are all online now, and they are. Went to my dealer to look up ECU pinout for my AFC, and the manual was online. Somone please tell me! hehe

Well not only is it illegal (copyright), but the manual is problably at least 500 to 1000 pages.

I have a factory service manual for my 3rd gen. It does have some very useful spec and part numbers that the Haynes manual doesn't have, but the style of the Haynes manual is better for understanding exactly how to perform a certain procedure. The FSM assumes a factory trained tech is using the manual, and often doesn't have step by step instruction that are useful for a do it yourselfer. Not to mention the Haynes manual is around $12.

I know this post is going south. So lemme add some more fuel. Are these service manuals like for sale to a shop where several mechanics have access to it? If the club owned one and had like a forum that was member only to read wouldn't that kinda in a roundabout way be the same thing?

Some of you guys are so hard headed! :-) There are ways around the legal system.

I've posted this link before. http://www.manualcd.com

You can purchase a cd with ALL of the manuals from any year DSM or 3000GT for about $30. The guy scanned them all in. Maybe if we asked nice enough he would do the same for the protege manuals???

Does the manual have an ISBN number. I can't believe that only Mazda can sell the Service Manual.:(

Well the publishing company most likely sells them as well. When I went to look into buying a FSM for my Neon, they gave me the number for the publisher. My dealership doesn't even bother with selling it.

What manuals are available? Which manual would you recommend? What about the CD that shows up on ebay for abou $8.00? Thanks,
Amy
