Replacement Spark Plugs for a 2001 protege

Just wondering what type, or brand of spark plugs would be the best since Im prloly gona change them soon since I reached the 48k plug change limit in the manual (yes Im being anal about sticking to the manual). I know I can get them from the dealer but wanted to know IF there is a difference in brands as to longevity or performance.
Would changing the wires on the plugs also help or just the plugs themselves???

2001 1.6L Protege.

Get the stock NGKs and buy them at Autozone or someplace similar, not the dealer.
Any kind of "performance" plugs are a complete waste of money.

As for the wires, if they are in good shape no need to replace them.

Would the size of the plugs be listed in the manual or would I have to check with a shop or auto parts store?

Yes, the owner's manual has the OEM plug recommendation. I've got the 2.0L so I dunno if they are the same...if you don't have the manual, maybe someone around here with a 1.6 can tell you.
If not, parts stores should definitely have the info.
They should be @ ten bucks or so for all four.
