I have a 2001 Mazda Protege Lx, and i want to put a remote starter on it. Does anyone know the best one to put on this Portege?

Is your car a manual or automatic? Auto Start does not work very well in a manual car.

And what is a "Port-ege?" or do you mean protege:D

Also currently most auto starts in the industry comes with an alarm usually...

Check the "Car Electronic Section," and do a Search...their is a wealth of information available.

if you have a manual i highly recomend getting a compustar alarm/remote starter if you can afford it...they are pricy but worth it!!!

For you guys information a remote car starter can be installed in either autom or manual car just have to select the right model from your favorite manufacturer.

best remote starter, its all a mather of taste as long as you dont install a made in taiwan el cheapo brand you shouldnt have any problem if the product is installed properly . keep in mind that 90 % of the result is directly related to the installation.

i would suggest an Autostart model 2500/2560 (depending on the trans you got, autom or manual) very nice remotes and works very good. this company has been ,manufacturing remote car starter/alarms and only that for 15 years now.

anyway if ya need help installing your starter pm me ill send you info with pics on where to make your connections.

I have the Audiovox APS995C it's the one we sell at Circuit City not the Audiovox APS995 on Audiovox's website (that one is cheesy). I love this thing. It has a clock on the remote (which is nice since I don't wear a watch. It displays the temp. in the vehicle. It has an indiglo backlighting. It comes with two remotes (one two way and one regular remote) which is essential if you are married. It has diff. tones you can select for things such as to tell you remote starting, alarm clock, etc. It has a parking meter timer. It shows how much time left on your remote start. It has a whole bunch of extra channels. i love this thing. We also sell the DEI Viper790XV which is a cool unit as well but I definately needed 2 remotes (it only has one remote with it). I have installed both units and I would say the Viper is far easier to install and program but I preferred the features of the Audiovox. I'll post pics of the remotes when I get a chance.

The other remote in the top right corner is my wifes DEI Viper550esp on her '95 Nissan 240SX

i love dei for their alarms but over here in Quebec when it gets cold DEI remote starter just doesnt work !

i would choose a compustar over any dei products.

just my opinion

I have been installing DEI alarms for close to 5 years now and have never had any issues with them not starting. I live in Illinois and it gets pretty cold here as well. You know there are certain things you can do to help that. Adjust crank time, set for tach not voltage sensing, etc.

jellybean98, i had a very bad experience with dei remote car starter that im a bit hesitant to try it again, the problems that i have had was no start when cold, very poor range and loose remote programming alll of that = come backs and no one likes come back.

i have been working in the 12 volts industry for a bit over 12 years now and im currently working for a large manufacturer and i still install when ever i can to keep up to date and test what the competition is offering i agree that DEI makes very good alarms but as far as remote car starter they are just average and dont impress me at all.

just my opinion
