Racing Beat vs. Mazdaspeed exhaust SOUND

Simple question.

Which is exhaust is louder?
Racing Beat or Mazdaspeed?

This will be the first modification from stock on a P5. I want it to work and look good but to remain discrete and not attract the wrong type of attention.

Thanks

:D

reading around the forums i heard that racing beat is quiter

jaisai01 April-19th-2003 11:42 AM

however the sound of the MS exhaust is sooo sweet. and looks cool as sh*t too.... i would suggest the MS exhaust for your P5.
jsut my .02

PS look at my sig. it has a pic of hte MS exhaust on my ride.

Protege52003 April-19th-2003 07:04 PM

i think the mazda muffler will sound louder and it is not that abnoxoius. This is the MS exhaust off my sedan after being chopped about 4.5 inches. I think the MS exhaust for the protege5 will be about an inch shorter.

sounds sweeeeeeet.

sorry for bad pic. rainned most of the day when i took the pic

exhaust question

I have had both on my MP3 and the Mazdaspeed is louder and looks better too. Just my two cents.

proto-J April-19th-2003 09:41 PM

Mazdaspeed it is...

Thanks for your replys everyone!
Looks like everyone is more than happy with their Mazdaspeed exhausts and I think I'll head in the same direction.

FYI: dealer is charging $316.63 Canadian.
anyone know of a CANADIAN source for Mazdaspeed parts
at a compareable price?

Thats funny, because the mazdaspeed exhaust and the Racing beat exhaust for the MP3 are the same mufflers just different inscriptions. Now for the P5, the mazdaspeed exhaust is provided by Bosal (which is louder but doesnt give as much HP as compared to the Racing Beat exhaust.) I prefer Dyno results over sound.

actually bosal has made the MS exhaust for awhile now for both cars. and the racing beat one is diff. i compared both and they are completly diff.

now to me, the first on the protege, looks just like the racing beat, and the box it comes in is very interesting too....Racing Beat. The second one is from the protege 5 which is made by bosal. But do not get me wrong, they do make a longer version of the bosal for people who have a protege, but why would anyone want sound over quality.

Not having seen the Mazdaspeed exhaust I can't comment on it. However I just installed the Racing Beat cat back and it looks/sounds awesome. It's not too much louder then stock just a lot deeper. It looks amazing as well and unless you really look it's hard to tell it's not stock.

I wanted the performance of a high flow exhaust without the big sound or obvious looks of most aftermarket exhaust systems.

I would go for the Racing beat. Not to mention it's a cat back system as opposed to an axel back like the mazdaspeed.

my 2 cents

Jaster Mereel April-21st-2003 12:57 PM

exactly, cat-back systems are so much better. You get bigger piping all the way from your cat. Which is why i said i would rather have dyno results instead of sound. Sure the Bosal (mazdaspeed) muffler may look and sound loud, but the Racing beat Cat-back exhaust is the smarter way to go.

MazdaSpeed0020 April-21st-2003 03:30 PM

I am going to agree, go with the RacingBeat exhaust. And if you want even better flow, put on a high flow cat along with the cat back exhaust and your Protege will be breathing a lot better.

Or just get a custom down pipe made, the second cat is pretty unrestrictive as far as Catalytic converters go...I have said it a million times, the stock downpipe is a joke...

Funky Buddha April-22nd-2003 05:51 AM

Buying the mazdaspeed axle back and then having custom 2.25" piping made will probably be cheaper than the racing beat full cat-back system(might be wrong). The axle back already has partial piping and it's also 2.25". All you'd need is probably 5 more feet of piping. Plus I don't like the racing beat's oval tip. I think the round tip sits better w/ the protege5's rear bumper. And as for the muffler sticking out, it doesn't at all. sits pretty deep underneath the car. It's nothing like the catalogue pictures that are shown.

Jaster Mereel April-22nd-2003 06:04 AM

i have no problem with my RB exhaust tip touching my bumper. All i had to do was just align my s-pipe and the rubber hangers while i was installing it. Its all about precision and patience.
