Mazda recommends even in Canada that you chnage the oi every 5000miles (8000km). Why woul mazda do that if causes premature death of a engine??? :( I just bought the US mobil 15000mile chnage interval oil as they are competing with amsoil now for once a year ~25000km change of oil. Read the specs on the oil. Don't even compare regular dino oil to 100% full synthetic. DON'T :) The poin of chnaging only the filter is that you don't have to raise or get under the car and the only thing that starts deteriorating is the cleaners. Therefore by chnaging the filters and leaving the oil in as recommended on the bottle you can keep the oil (cleaner). The oil does not breaK down anywhere as quick as people think (Especially full synthetic) Anyways, I am putting in my full synthetic 15000mile oil and I'll let you know if the engine blows up. After 8000miles I chnage the filter only and do it 3 times in the life of the oil. ~24000kms! Wish me luck! :)

Yea go ahead and believe the manufactures. Look at ford with the tire issue. Firestone told people one psi and ford said a lower. The rollover rate was helped do to under inflated tires. The manufaturers tell you 6-7k. If you do blow your motor it will be well out of warrenty and guess who pays for that. I don't know about you but I'll trust the guys that make the oil!

I personally change the Oil/filter every 3000 miles and use Mobile 1 full Synthetic. I know Im paying alot more that many of you and Im sure you dont think its need but I say, better safe than sorry. Id rather have a better change at longer engine life.

The companies that sell the cars don't make more money by telling you recommeded oil change intervals are every 7000 miles...in fact most dealers do oil changes so they would benefit to recommend shorter intervals...Fact is, it isnt necessary to change oil every 3000 on modern cars...Oil manufacturers DO make more money however by recommended shorter intervals, because they sell more oil....So who has more reason to lie ???

I guess we can agree to disagree. If I sell you a car and tell you I'll give you a 70k warrenty all you have to do is chage the oil every 7k. Buy the time the engine goes your out of warrenty, trade in time or fix it time. Either way they win, parts or new car. Why do you think somany cars misteriously break down right after the warrenty goes out. It's all timed. Yea I'm sure the Oil people have their own agendas too. But like the other guy said better safe then sorry. With todays high reving motors they go though oil alot faster than the old slow short reving ones.

Like I said. I have ~130000kms on my car now. (Way past Warabty and have been doing my own oil changes every 8-10000kms. :) So as for breakind down right after waranty is up. Ya right! But I do do 70km round trip to work and that could be why in my case as a commuter car the highway miles are more forgiving. For those of you who work 5 min from hoem and are to ignorant and lazy to walk....:( This short driving is what wrecks the engines! I have owned 12 cars at least and have never distryed a engine. I drive usually ~200000kms before I sell. Not much mileage, but way past regular waranty. You guys need to stop listening to these pimply assed , no girlfriend, chess playing little ricers who are determined to stick with a old fashion regimen of oil and filter every 3000miles. By the way, I am just kidding. I love you guys:) Really , if my engine goes with my 15000mile new mobile, I'll be the first to admit. JUst call me Mobil oil Mazda Guinypig #73

Actually, if you go to: www.mobiloil.com and click on Mobil 1 Extended Perfomance oil, you'll find the following statement in the FAQ section.

Q. If I go longer between oil change intervals, do I need to change my oil filter more frequently? Or do I need a special filter.

A. Continue to change your oil filter when you change your engine oil. Special filters, or more frequent oil filter changes are not required.

Mobil goes on to recommend their own brand of filter, naturally, but note that they have said, 'special filters are not required.'

If you're really worried about filter adequacy, you could switch to the Mazda 626 V6 oil filter in place of the OEM. It has about 20% more internal volume than stock.

No! Synthetics like car manufacturers, are going longer intervals. In Europe are they or are they not going ~15000kms on regular oil. Manufacture specs. Synthetics can go longer, hence the reason mobil is the second giant other they amsoil to join the mch longe rhten usual change interval :)

is it any more difficult to install and remove the v6 oil filter on a 2003 protege (2.0L)?

and the oil filter from the v6; which year of the 626 oil filter should i use?

Use the one for your same year (you will see from the 'book' that there essentially only two filters one is 4cyl and the other is 6 cyl and they didn't change for a loooong time).

Just as easy if not a wee bit easier - no problem at all. I highly recommend it.

so, i would use the filter for a 2003 mazda 6, then. right? 2003 was the last year of the prot, but first of the 6....

On my second oil change interval ! :)40000kms and going strong on Mobil 15000mile(`25000km) oil full synthetic. Only changed the filter at time of oil change. First interval went full 25000kms and will do the same for second interval:)

170000kms 01 preotegeSE 1.6L Canadian climate :)
