Question about Protege 2001?
 

what kind of gas is the best for the protege 2001 es!
and i may chang the tire to 17' is that good or bed?
what would be different?

87 octane will do,

if you really can afford it i would be selective and find the lowest sulfer/other impurities/crap you can which is usually availible with higher grades. that in the crud catagory may result in less wear due to chemical attack, Weapon of Mass distruction to your exhaust system.

The only system in my car that seem to be having no problems is the engine, i use higher octane only while my cousin keeps working at the gas station he is assistant manager of, when that gig is up i am done lol

In the end though you better off with 87 octane, just stay away from independant stations, i could be totally wrong about this, but i just rather get my gas from the bigger companies. (those gouging bastards)

hahaha- We only run 93 Octane in the Protege- and its a 2002 Protege ES.

Ok, that is a complete waste of money.

USE 87 octane. It's all you need, it's what your engine was made to run on. Anything else and you are just throwing away your money. Don't you think gas is expensive enough?


17's are OK, but since you are new here I will warn you...make sure you get the correct offset for the wheel. Check the Tire/Wheel section, there is good info there.
I wouldn't go any bigger than 17". IMO if you put on 18s the ride will be sh*t and your car will look stupid.

Haha, maybe for the 1st time ever.

i run it on 95octane usually... (i decided to stop with the 98 octane LOL... was gettin 2 expensive)... no way in hell am i goin back to the shitty 91octane anymore LOL....

i dont know if i am imaginin things but i seem to get better milage out of the high RON fuel... i get around 330km to 1/2 a tank... where as with 91 i only got around 290...

you dont have lower octane than 91 ???

that makes sense since higher octane ignites at a higher temp

but putting 98 octane in an economy car....just dumb.

Just dumb is kind of a strong statement. There are reasons I run this fuel that I dont need to get into- I just answered a question. You want to run lower Octane by all means- save some $$$, Just know I run what I run for a reason.

I'm not trying to start an argument here. If I want an argument I go to msprotege, but please take the time to explain. If there are good reasons to do this, enlighten us. Isn't that what this forum is for???

There are NO good reasons to run higher octane fuel than recommended, unless you have high comp pistons, are running nitrous, or are FI..PERIOD...

Otherwise it's a waste of money. I guarantee it.
