Protege5 heater rumble

Bought a 2002 p5 in June '02, now that it is cold outside, I have been running the heat, noticed a low-rumble, gets loud when fan turned higher. Seems louder than it should be. Anyone else with a p5 notice this?

Also in Chicago, but...

I have not experienced this. Is it when you turn fan up all the way? May be a loose belt, but could also be that the fan is just plain noisy at high rates of speed....

The fan on my car is louder that on other cars I've owned, but I think that is the way it just runs.
If the noise is bugging you you could take it in and have them look at it.

Yep, it is a fairly noisy system. The tone changes when you go from fresh air to recirculate. Because of this I think it is the sound of the fan working hard to push the air through the ducts (which are probably too restrictive to handle the CFM of air at the higher speeds) resulting in the rumbling sound. Speeds 1 and 2 are not bad but 3 and 4 are pretty loud.

hmm, i usually use fan speeds of 1 and 2, i'll try 3and 4 when i go out later on tonight and get back to you.
