Protege DX 1.6L, Many Questions!
 
I am new to this whole mazda thing, I just recently decided that I would like to make some major upgrades to my car. First off I LOVE Mazda cars at their fastest, but somehow I ended up with a 2000 1.6L Mazda Protege DX. As of right now I have no modifications and I would like to know if there are any ideas that you all would have for me to start off with. First though I have a few questions:

1. Is it normal for the passanger side floor to be soaked with water every time I ride around with the AC on?
2. Where can I find a good body kit?
3. Are there any conversions for the headlights? (eyebrows)
4. Is there even a turbo kit out there for my car?
5. I have a manual and there is no Tach... If I where to get an aftermarket guage cluster would there be any difficulty adding one?
6. I would like to get a Cat-back system, where could I get one of those?
7. What is the bar for that I see in many P5's and in the MSP in the engine compartment (close to the throttle body) it covers the span of the compartment. Is that just for looks, or does it actually have a function?
8. Is is possible to have a Supercharger for the protege instead.
9. And does any one know how or if I could use alcohol injection instead of N2O?
10. My Stereo has a cd player and a tape player in what appears to be a double din space. Does anyone know if it is possible to put 2 single din things in their place? (ie. indash TV and seperate indash DVD/MP3 player/Radio)?

I am nothing near a mechanic but I have faith that I can do most Mods myself. If anyone could please help me out it would mean the world to me.

I'm going to say it so no'one else has to....

Welcome to the boards. Please do us a favor and read the instructions first. We have a "SEARCH" feature that will locate this information for you. It keeps us from wasting our bandwidth by answering the same questions over and over again. I will answer a few questions that I don't believe are covered.

1. No it's not normal, sounds like your AC drain tube is clogged.
3. Just have someone cut you some eyebrows out of vinyl. The headlights from 99+ should be interchangeabe, but I'm not sure.
5. It would be easier to just buy an aftermarket tach (tastefull please!) and have it installed. Your dash will thank you!
7. Geez man! It's called a strut brace. It holds the car flat in corners. Very good part.
8. Not that I know of..
9. don't bother, the gains aren't worth the effort.

i think if you had the 2.o or 1.8 jackson racing had a supercharger
the alcohol is a bad idea and yes i think u can swap the double din for 2 singles

there is a turbo kit avail for the 1.6L Protege...check out Wagner motorsports....a few body kits avail...check out Erebuni,Corksport,and there is one that is bad ass that keeps showing up on ebay, dont remember the company name but if you just do a search Mazda Protege,body kit it should show up...Some suggestions would be an Injen CAI and Bosal cat-back exhaust or a custom cat back thru an exhaust shop....the OEM strut bar is a nice addition to the suspension setup and almost all 3rd gen suspension parts are interchangeable...anything off the MP3 or MSP suspension is a BIG upgrade over the DX suspension, which is already better stock than most other cars in class....IMHO eyebrows pretty much suck and i've never seen them on any car and thought they looked good..possible headlight stuff...I see you have a 2000, so APC puts out a nice clear corner which looks much cleaner to me than stock...Corksport does put out a dual bulb headlight for the 99-00 Pro but it is pretty expensive....Supercharger is possible but very tough and totally custom...Really a bad choice to me since it takes power to make power and we are only starting with 107 lb-ft of torque....your net result just wont be as good as a turbo....the tach shouldnt be too difficult to install, just dont go doing some jerry rigged screws in your dashboard install on an aftermarket tach...if you need tach signal you can splice off the diagnostic box near the firewall on driver side..its the purple/white wire....Alcohol injection is a BAD idea, and i dont really see its relationship where it and N20 are interchangeable..is you do use Nitrous, please at a minimum use a wet setup...dry is just asking for a blown engine....I have 2 single dins in my DX, thats what it came with....radio and a single DIN pocket with a door so its def do-able to switch to 2 single DIN.............i think that covers everything..in the future though use search...people are anal about that on this board
