Protege 5 Juddering Clutch!

Anyone else experienced mild or severe juddering when pulling off in 1st or reversing with a P5?
It seems worse when it is cold out, and can be brutal on occasions, shaking the whole car.
Had the dealer work on it and they said there was a recall of some sort that required reprogramming of some systme management chip, but the problem, although reduced, has not completely gone away.

Use the "Search" feature. There are about a million posts about this.
I just ignore it and it goes away when it warms up. I live in a less severe winter climate than a lot of these other people do though. They may have it worse. We only get to the 20s and 30s F at night around here.

If you have a 2002 P5, there is a TSB relating to clutch chatter. Check out the TSBs here for details. They should be able to replace the clutch and flywheel under warranty. Apparently, the cause is 'hotspots' on the flywheel - when first driving away, they flywheel expands at different rates in spots, causing the clutch to slip on those areas. It goes away when things warm up a bit.

I have had mine done (much easier to drive now...), as have others. As mentioned, search. The info is there.

Good luck with the dealer on this!
