Pro5 sport muffler from dealer
placed an order today.. got it $200 flat plus tax. not bad.
Should have it in my hands by Friday. Any tips or tricks to install this thing? Thanks for your help, :D Ken |
remove passenger side rear wheel (car jacked up of course)
remove bolts from pipe flange (WD-40 recommended for loosening seized bolts) remove muffler hanger from rubber piece (WD-40 again very useful) once old muffler removed, reverse process to install new muffler. time used for install - ~30 minutes. have fun :) |
What's the sport muffler look like? How much louder is it and will it add any HP?
Thanks. |
look at my web page to see it/hear it.
the P5 version will have a shorter pipe between the tip and the muffler, otherwise it's the same as the one I have. |
and do a search on 'mazdaspeed exhaust' on this forum, LOTS of info.
|
Thanks ZoomZoomH, I did a search but I can't really find much on the expected HP gains (if any) with the sport muffler. Maybe I'm a dumbass... ;)
Do you by chance know what one can expect? Or even a cheapy universal or Ractive one? It'll help in my decision for a future upgrade. Thanks again! Shane |
the gain is small enough that it probably wouldn't make a big difference, it's mostly a look/sound mod...
same goes for most bolt-on mufflers, you want power gain you need to go at least cat-back... |
thanks!!
zoomzoomH-thanks for the info. looks easy enough. :D
yah, i bought it only for the sound/look mod. i dont expect any hp gains...even if i got a catback probably 2-3whp at most. should look good with my dropped ride. :p |
i think im going to just pull the car up on ramps and do it...or
while its in the air when i work on my struts. :p |

Yeah, I figured 1 or 2 hp at the most. I'd do it mostly for the looks myself. I was on your site... pretty cool! Love the sound!
Thanks! |

Thanks for your help, :D Ken I got mine for $195 shipped to my door. and since I didn't wanted to install it myself, I went to MIDAS and paid $15usd for install with 90days installation warranty. ;) |

30 min. it only took me 20 with the wheel on.
|
ok, ill try to do it in 5min.

received muffer already yesterday afternoon and installed. :D
it was real easy to do. i would use a lot of wd40 on the hangers before taking them off and then using some cleaner spray to rinse the wd40 from the hangers after the install. like you guys said, about 30min max. it think it took me longer to take the muffer out of the box since they wrapped it REAL well. hahaha. the sound is deep and somewhat throaty around idle. its not the best sounding muffler ive heard, but its not ricy and i think it opened up the higher rpm torque a bit. not sure, my car has only 500miles so still in break-in period. i did rev it up close to redline though just to see. hahahaha. :p |
