Power window problem.
 

I got an 02 P5. My driver's power window is busted. This happend following an alternator problem. I took it to 2 mechanics and one said that it's the switch. Another mechanic said that if it were the switch, none of the windows would work. He also said that since the motor was hot (which is was, warm at least), that the motor is to blame.

Does anyone know which mechanic is right. I don't really feel like buying a motor unless it's gonna fix it.

Also, any idea where to get a motor? The cheapest I could find was 75 from junkyard. Anywhere I could get it cheaper?

I doubt it had anything to do with it, but I did the mod that the power windows work even w/o the keys. this was months and months ago. Just sayin.

Make sure the mechanics didn't forget to plug everything back in. After I got my alternator switched out, my alarm system stopped working.
Turns out that they just didn't finish the job.

No, def. not that. My battery kept on dieing over and over even after changing the alternator. Then the power window stopped working and the battery stopped dieing. i think that means it wasn't the alternator at all. The window was draining the battery one way or another.

Check for shorted wire I guess. There has to be a drain somewhere from the power source up to the window motor.

It may have been draining power before, but has now just been severed. That would explain why the window stopped working, and why the battery stopped dying.

well if it drained your battery, sounds like a switch is stuck in place (the contacts in the switch). SO you may need a new switch is all. Though the motor could have a problem that fried the switch too.
They aren't easy to pull apart, but you can disassemble the switch and / or motor to clean up the parts and re-assemble it. So if you're mechanically inclined you can do that - but if that was the case you wouldn't be asking about how to fix it.
